The new Lion King remake is a commercial success, but even so, it hasn’t spared it from its fair share of critics and naysayers.

Doubters, in particular, are picking on the movie’s art direction, saying that Disney should have opted for something more similar to the original’s art as opposed to the more realistic look they opted for.

This is especially true after one artist gave his take on what the movie’s characters would have looked like had Disney done that.

Nikolay Mochkin, otherwise known as ellejart, decided to recreate the Lion King remake’s characters to look less like their realistic selves and more like their animated versions.

The results? Nostalgia-invoking artwork that definitely would have silenced the film’s many critics.

While we have no way of telling if going with a similar art direction would have made the Lion King remake more successful or just as successful, what we do know is that Disney knows enough about what they’re doing, not to doubt them.

Still, you can’t really help but wonder what could’ve been.

For today’s generation, it can be hard to remember a time when social media didn’t exist.

Even before Facebook became the biggest social media site out there, sites such as MySpace, Multiply, and Friendster helped solidify social media as, pretty much, a modern necessity.

But, for those who are old enough to remember a time when social media was nowhere to be seen, anything that reminds them of those times will send them a happy trip down memory lane.

Case in point, these illustrations that bring to life what social media sites of today would have looked like if they existed as other forms of technology in the past.

Illustrated as retro-looking gadgets, these illustrations, inspired by social media sites, will definitely make you feel nostalgic.
