]]>Nakata says she loved pretty stones ever since she was a little girl and she enjoyed searching for them on river banks. Her artistic journey started in 2011 when she found a stone that reminded her of a rabbit. This is when she started creating these beautiful stone animals.
“To me, stones are not simple materials or canvases for painting pictures on,” she said on her Facebook page Stone Artist Akie, “Among all those numerous stones on a river bank, one stone, looking like an animal, catches my eye. When I find a stone, I feel that a stone has found me too.”
The process of painting the stones is complicated and lasts for a long time as the artist takes her time to find the perfect approach to each piece. She uses acrylic paint to create these animals on stones.
“Stones have their own intentions, and I consider my encounters with them as cues they give me it’s OK to go ahead and paint what I see on them.”
