]]>At 17-years, she’s already training to become an astronaut with a very important mission. Alyssa has had her heart set on the stars ever since she was a little girl. “Daddy, I want to be an astronaut, and be one of the people that go to Mars,” she told her father when she was just 3 years old.
She aims to be the first person on Mars for the 2033 human mission to Mars. When that time comes, she will be 32 years old and she plans to soar off to the red planet to conduct science experiments, grow food, and look for signs of life over a two to three year period.
Alyssa’s list of accomplishments includes witnessing 3 Space Shuttle launches, attending Space Camp and Space Academy several times and Robotics Academy once. She was also the youngest to graduate from Advanced Space Academy and multiple Sally Ride Camps. She was also the first and only person so far to complete the NASA Passport program by going to all 14 NASA Visitor’s Centers. She was also the youngest to be accepted and graduate from the Advanced Possum Academy, officially making her certified to go to space and an astronaut trainee.
In addition to her astronaut training, she’s also studying all of her school subjects in 4 languages (English, Chinese, French, and Spanish). She also attends public speaking events to encourage others to get involved n science, technology, engineering, and maths.
“I did the same thing as other kids, like switching my mind about careers, wanting to be a teacher or the president one day. But the way I always thought about it was I would become an astronaut, go to Mars, come back, and then be a teacher or the president,” she told Teen Vogue.
