Every year, Maggie Storino of Wilmette Illinois together with her daughters, Sophia, 7, Sadie, 5, and Solane, 2, recreate iconic scenes from Oscar-nominated films.

The family started the project, called Don’t Call Me Oscar, seven years ago when her sister was covering the Academy Awards. This year, the trio sisters re-enacted scenes from Best Picture nominees.

Maggie was aware of how often her girls are assigned with portraying various male leads that’s why she was pleased to see that this year’s nominees offered more female characters for them to embody.

“What started as a lark has taken on additional meaning as the conversation around representation has evolved in Hollywood,’ the mother of three told Vanity Fair. ‘In the past, it’s been a struggle to find stills that are identifiable by the female lead. This year felt much different. The future is female, and increasingly so are the films. My girls had so many strong actresses to emulate in 2018, from Saoirse Ronan to Frances McDormand to Sally Hawkins to Meryl Streep. I also loved being able to show them Greta Gerwig in the director’s chair. What I’m most conscious of now is how much imagery matters.”

Scroll down to see this year’s recreations and some photos from previous years.
