]]>Back in November, fans of the popular Nickelodeon’s show started a petition that NFL honors the SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg, who passed away late last year. The petition’s original aim was to get SpongeBob’s performance of “Sweet Victory” on the halftime show. This performance dates back to 2001’s episode “Band of Geeks,” which revolves around a marching band performing at the Bubble Bowl, Bikini Bottom’s nod to Super Bowl.
While fans failed to get what they wanted, producers of Super Bowl LIII halftime show still decided to give a small tribute to Hillenburg and SpongeBob by providing a short tribute and airing a clip from the show before Travis Scott took the stage.
