]]> British sculptor Tach Pollard has been collecting oak tree roots ever since he was a kid, but it was only later in life that he realized these roots could also be a useful material for wood sculptures.  He began harvesting oak tree roots from a forest near his house and carving them into surreal creatures that are inspired by European myths and folklore. He also uses hawthorn, yew, and blackthorn tree roots for his creations.

“I love the sense of finding a new piece of wood and anticipating the potential of the form it holds inside,” said Pollard about his work. “Carving is a way of honoring this tree especially the roots I carve often I can see its suggested form as I pull it from the ground.”
