]]>“You can do it too. Maybe we save the world,” Peter shared on his Instagram account. His trash picking project started two years ago.
“It’s one of the easiest, brainless, physically-demanding-less, things a single person can do to help the environment,” he shared on Bored Panda. “And if a thousand people start doing it, a hundred thousand, a million, a hundred million… we could make a really big change really quickly by doing the simplest of tasks.”
In just a couple of days, Peter reached over one thousand followers on his Instagram profile. Every photo includes a short message, explaining how easy it was for him to pick up the trash.

]]>It was then that the Washed Ashore Project was born. Aiming to clean the oceans as well as raise awareness about plastic pollution, the non-profit project is centered around a simple but brilliant idea: using plastic waste to create life size animal sculptures that are both striking and alarming.
The sculptures are created by volunteers in workshops and staff under the direction of Pozzi. Over 10,000 volunteers have helped clean beaches and worked with Washed Ashore to process over 20 tons of debris into over 70 sculptures of the animals affected by plastic pollution.
The organization also partners with schools, state parks, service groups, youth centers, and local businesses to spread the word about the dangers of plastics pollution and to teach citizens to become better stewards of the ocean.

]]>Environmental Studies major Lauren Singer wants to inspire you to live a greener, more cost-effective, life. And to Singer, a zero-waste lifestyle is not as demanding as it may seem, and can actually be quite fun.
Her zero-waste journey is documented in her online blog, Trash is for Tossers. For Singer, zero waste means not producing any garbage whatsoever. “No sending anything to landfill, no throwing anything in a trash can, nothing. However, I do recycle and I do compost,” she explains.
It all started in 2012, when she noticed her classmate would bring his lunch in a single-use plastic bag, a disposable water bottle, and a plastic takeout container. “I would sit there and think: we are supposed to be the future of this planet and here we are with our trash, messing it up,” writes Singer.
So, would you consider adopting the lifestyle?
