]]>Originally from Norwich, Gemma now resides in California with her two pugs and boyfriend and works as a freelance illustrator, with clients that include Hallmark, The New York Times, Oxford University Press, Chronicle Books, and The Observer.
“I knew from a young age that I wanted to draw and write for a living. I was always encouraged to draw by teachers and friends,” shared Correll with
Creative Boom. “Once I realized that I could use art as a tool to get out of PE lessons, I was even keener. At primary school, I was sometimes allowed to stay in the classroom and make posters for upcoming school events rather than put myself through the humiliation of falling over and generally being terrible at all of the sports.”

]]>He started drawing without a clear idea about the topics he wanted to explore but has learned to take his comic as a medium for expressing his own thoughts, memories, imaginations, and absurd fantasies.
His style constantly changes because he can’t stop exploring. “I don’t know if I will stick a permanent style, but for now changing constantly makes me happy,” Alper says.

]]>“I started drawing after I got my first dog, Buttercup,” she said. “I was 5 and I was so obsessed with her that all I wanted to do was draw her on every piece of paper I could find. I eventually expanded to drawing other subjects beyond dogs. I’ve taken a few drawing classes, but in general, I just doodled and drew for fun… mostly during class or boring meetings. Probably way too much. My classmates started noticing me drawing in class and would ask me to draw pictures of their dogs for them!”
