There’s luxury living and then there’s billionaire living. None of these penthouse apartments would leave you with much change from $50 million and many of them cost far more than $50 million.

That means that not only are they among the finest living spaces in the world but that they also have unparalleled views. Check them out with us.

$47 Million – 56 Leonard Street, New York City

There are 10 penthouse apartments at the St. Leonard development and none of them come cheap. They share a library, indoor and outdoor theater, sky estuary including a rather nice lap pool and other amenities.

As you can see, residents have a 360-degree view of New York from their apartments and they can see for miles on a clear day.

The building was designed by Herzog & de Meuron and is often known affectionately by locals as “The Jenga Tower.”

$50 Million – Faena Residence, Miami Beach

One of America’s most iconic penthouses is the stunning Faena Residence at Miami Beach in Florida. It is a duplex arrangement with a respectable 8,273 square feet of floor space. That houses an impressive 5 bedrooms.

It also has a whopping 10,000 square feet of decking running around the outside of the building which allows the residents to get some stunning views of the ocean. It also accommodates a 70-foot long swimming pool.

$80 Million – Dome Penthouse At The Plaza, New York City

This may be a cool $80 million, but it’s one of New York’s most desired residential space, too. It rarely changes hands and its current owner Tommy Hilfiger was lucky to be able to snap it up. He spent a cool $20 million on renovating the place to his preferred standard.

You can’t beat the views which include Central Park and Fifth Avenue. On a clear day, you can see the best of New York better than anyone else in the city.

Scientific discoveries happen every day, from new archaeological sites and potential new cures for diseases to the solar system and beyond. While these discoveries are certainly interesting, most of them don’t change our lives all that much.

However, these recent discoveries did just that. They changed our view of history in a way that can’t be undone! Let’s dive right in.

Ancient China’s Love For Beer

You love beer, we love beer, everyone loves beer! As it turns out, so did the ancient Chinese. We previously knew that this ancient civilization drank fermented beverages made from rice about 9,000 years ago.

In 2016, archaeologists discovered that the Chinese also made their own beer. Beer-making equipment was found at an excavation site in Shaanxi Province. The equipment dates to 2,400-2,900 B.C. To make it even more interesting, residue on the vessels revealed the presence of barley — more than 1,000 years before the Chinese used the grain for food.

King Tut’s Alien Knife

In 2016, scientists solved a 94-year-old mystery involving King Tutankhamen and his strange iron dagger. Found by Howard Carter in 1922, King Tut’s tomb remains the subject of many archaeological projects.

Among the items found at the young pharaoh’s tomb was a dagger made from iron. Iron working was rare in Egypt 3,300 years ago. Also, the dagger had not rusted. In 2016, scientists tested the dagger with an X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and found that the iron was of extraterrestrial origin. It likely came from a meteorite near the Red Sea.

Ancient Dogs Loved Ancient Man

It turns out, dogs and men have been best friends for more than 7,000 years! Archaeologist David Jacques found a dog’s tooth at Blick Mead near Stonehenge. While the find wasn’t strange, the origin of the tooth certainly was, since the animal belonged to an area known today as the Vale of York.

The ancient dog was a companion to a Mesolithic hunter-gatherer. The pair went on a 250 mile trip from York to Wiltshire. It is considered the oldest known journey in British history.

You have to admire people who are ready to throw their homes and their hearts open to any stray animal that passes by. In fact, without them, the streets of the country would be full of feral animals and very unhappy former pets.

However, there is one important lesson to be learned before you get into the adoptive spirit and bring home a new furry chum—that is, you must know the difference between something that can be a pet and something that can eat your children. Justin Bogh wasn’t convinced that his wife, Kayla Eby, had learned that lesson. He was extremely surprised when she sent him the pictures of a “puppy” that she had found and adopted from the outside world.

That’s because the pictures were of a coyote. Thinking that she’d brought this dangerous wild animal into his home to play with his children, Justin lost it. The conversation between the couple veers into hilarity as his wife pulls off her sheisty Photoshop prank perfectly.

Getting Started

The whole thing begins with this heartwarming shot of a baby coyote asleep in the family home.

Facebook

Not Quite There Yet

He’s barely paying attention at first but then the cold reality dawns on him. It’s a coyote, not a dog.

Facebook

The Threat Of Divorce

It’s a joke but we can imagine that just for a second as he typed this… he wasn’t joking.

Facebook

Nobody Does This

Do they? Well, it’s clear that while “nobody does this,” he’s prepared to believe that his wife will.

Facebook

She Turns The Screws

“You said we could for Christmas.” An artful play by a master of the windup.

Facebook

Not The Momma

Of course, no mother on earth is going to let a coyote play with their infant son. But daddy doesn’t know it.

Facebook

Her Track Record Is Clearly Counting Against Her

It’s the four ferrets that clearly influence his state of mind here.

Facebook

She’s Not David Attenborough

It’s fair to say that if she had brought a coyote home, asking her for advice on their eating habits would be foolish.

Facebook

The Finishing Touches Are Coming

Throw in a truly alarming detail and then a hint that you’re really joking.

Facebook

Poor Dad, He’s Just About To Lose His Mind

You have to say that despite the foul language in this little exchange, dad continues to try and do the right thing throughout. We have to wonder why he didn’t call the police at this point, though?

Facebook

Gotcha

The best moment of any practical joke is when the final reveal effortlessly lands home. This was truly brilliant.

Facebook

The Complete Confession

It is essential to ensure that your husband doesn’t lose his mind permanently after pulling off a prank like this. The wife decided to explain the mechanics of the whole thing to him. It’s either that or the divorce threat stops being a joke and becomes a real thing…

This is going to feel like stating the obvious, but when birds fly, they need to flap their wings to do so. This is something so basic that even a small child could explain it, right?

It is possible that somewhere out there, there is a bird that has learned to fly through the deployment of other means. Maybe a particle collision ability that helps turn a bird body into a balloon? Sadly, if this bird exists nobody knows about it.

This is why a recent video of a bird in flight has gone viral. In the images, it appears that the bird is levitating rather than flying. A few people wondered; “why was gravity not doings its thing and pulling the bird to the ground?”

Caught On Home Security Camera

YouTube

A YouTuber named “Ginger Beard” was reviewing his home security camera footage when he spied this feathered friend. The levitating bird was so fascinating that he felt it needed uploading to YouTube, where it picked up over 4 million views!

Even though Ginger Beard had managed to identify why the bird appeared to be floating effortlessly through the air, many YouTubers found themselves baffled by the phenomena. Some accused Ginger Beard of making a fake video, but it’s real. It would take an incredible amount of effort to fake this and the monetization from YouTube ads would never pay for it.

So What Was Going On, Exactly?

YouTube

The bird was not the first of its kind to learn how to fly without moving its wings. In fact, this particular phenomenon isn’t unique to birds—it was recently observed in a video made of a helicopter taking off.

The helicopter’s rotor blades were also apparently frozen as it took off from the ground and yes, this is impossible. What was really happening was simple; the bird was flapping its wings and the helicopter’s blades really were turning, too.

The camera’s frame rate, however, was synchronized perfectly with the beat of the bird’s wings and the helicopter’s blades. That meant that every time the camera captured a frame of the bird or helicopter in flight; the wings and the blades were in exactly the same position as they had been in the frame before.

An Optical Illusion From Matching Frame Rates

YouTube

This creates a peculiar optical illusion that makes the bird’s wings and the helicopter’s rotors appear to be stationary even when, in fact, they are not stationary. It’s a very difficult thing to do on purpose. You would need a lot of trial and error with a camera to create the same effect yourself.

Measuring the frame rate of a bird’s wing motion is hard to do. It might be easier to try this with a helicopter where the number of revolutions per minute of the blades is known and documented.

Whether you try to do it at home or not, you have to admit that this YouTube video of the bird is pretty spectacular.

It’s no easy thing to raise a child while in college, especially when you want to maintain a high GPA. Childcare falls through, kids get sick, and homework has to be done after mommy hours have ended.

Meet Morgan King, a 21-year-old student at the University of Tennessee and a single mother of a beautiful baby girl named Korbyn. Morgan missed a very important day of school and thought for sure she was out of luck. Her professor’s response was so shocking to the world, it went viral.

Her professor’s response was so shocking to the world, it went viral.

Facebook

Morgan Apologized In An Email For Missing Class And This Was Her Professor’s Response

Morgan posted a tweet mid-June that said, “told my professor I missed class yesterday because I couldn’t find childcare and this was her response. I’m literally crying. So blessed and thankful.”

A picture of Dr. Hunter’s email was attached.

YouTube

Dr. Sally B. Hunter is a professor in the department of Child and Family Studies at the University of Tennessee where Morgan attends. Her response to Morgan’s unique situation has made her famous overnight.

Dr. Hunter claims she’s shocked that a reaction like hers would be such a rarity. “I feel like it was a really normal thing to do,” she said.

The Story Spread Like A Wildfire

YouTube

Two weeks after Morgan first posted the tweet, it had 26,000 likes, 5,000 retweets and was being reported on new sites everywhere.

Even Beverly Davenport, the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, had something to say about it: “Morgan, thanks for showing us challenges college students face. Professor Hunter, thanks for being part of the solution.”

The widespread attention this story received is proof we all need to do better by one another. In an interview with local news outlet WBIR, Dr. Hunter explained how her professors had done this very thing for her as a young mom in graduate school. Way to pass it on, Dr. Hunter.

But There’s More To This Story

Facebook

Morgan goes to school full-time and works nights. Yes, her story is shared by so many other mothers—but there’s one aspect of her story that sets her apart, making her even more remarkable. Morgan lost her mother five months before she found out she was pregnant.

After Korbyn’s birth, not only was she struggling with childcare costs, but the sadness of her mother’s death and absence weighed on her heavily. Hats off to you, Morgan, for being so strong.

Infant care where Morgan lives costs almost three-quarters as much as the tuition she pays for college. There need to be more professors like Dr. Hunter, who recognize the significant hindrances for single parents to attend college and who offer themselves to be solutions to those hindrances.

Morgan’s story continues to go viral, inspiring so many other young parents to finish their degrees and to not be afraid to take hold of a hand that’s extended to them.

One would think this would instill a level of confidence, but cheetahs are naturally very nervous animals. When raised in captivity, this can cause a problem for breeding.

YouTube

Cheetahs As Support Animals

Zoos across the country have found an adorable solution to this problem. Zookeepers have been assigning lonely cheetahs their own emotional support dogs. Raised together from birth, these unlikely pairs roam the exhibit together and display signs of a strong sibling bond.

“It’s a love story of one species helping another species survive,” explains Jack Grisham, who is vice president of animal collections for the St. Louis Zoo. He is also known as the species survival plan coordinator for cheetahs in all of North America.

YouTube

As one of the leading organizations for wild animal research, the San Diego Zoo has done most of the research when it comes to the effects dogs have on cheetahs.

“A dominant dog is very helpful because cheetahs are quite shy instinctively, and you can’t breed that out of them,” says Janet Rose-Hinostroza, a training supervisor at the San Diego Zoo’s Safari Park in North County San Diego.

Pairing The Animals

Facebook

“When you pair them,” she continued, “the cheetah looks to the dog for cues and learns to model their behavior. It’s about getting them to read that calm, happy-go-lucky vibe from the dog.”

What Dogs Teach The Cheetahs

Facebook

That’s right—cheetahs become so anxious and stressed that they will stop breeding. A cute Labrador retriever puppy, though, can come in to teach the cheetah how to relax. They instill a level of confidence in the cat which trains them to be more active and social.

Basically, the dogs help to train the big cats how to mate and reproduce… just like the way they help humans with emotional and social support.

Applications In The Wild

Applications of this phenomenon have made it to the wild. The declining cheetah population has caused many Africans to use dogs in order to build the cheetah population back up. The Anatolian Shepherd, originally from the Anatolia region in central Turkey, is the dog breed of choice for such a task.

YouTube

Farmers use the Anatolian Shepherds to scare cheetahs away from their livestock. The dogs are used in lieu of trapping and shooting the animal, which has significantly contributed to its decline. The dog’s bark is enough to dissuade any big cat from entering farmland to mess with the farmer’s animals.

Wildlife expert Jack Hannah is on the forefront of this new movement. He leads the Cheetah Conservation Fund, whose goal is to help the cheetah thrive. He says the dogs will play a crucial role in the future of the cheetah.

“You may see, in history, that this dog could be responsible for saving the cheetah from extinction,” says Hannah. “That is one heck of a story right there.”

The Most Popular Zoo Attraction? The Dog

Until the cheetah population begins to thrive once more, zoos across the world are pairing the endangered cat with man’s best friend.

Like the Columbus Zoo, these expensive exhibits are attracting more people than the other exotic animals. People are flocking to their local zoos to view the common canine.

Lara and Mara Bawar of Sao Paulo, Brazil, have surprised and captivated many in the fashion industry as well as fashion enthusiasts online. Lara and Mara are 11-year-old albino twins. They were born with albinism, a condition in which a person is born completely or partially lacking melanin, the pigment that gives color to eyes, hair, and skin.

Albinism causes vision problems because the pigment in the iris of the eye helps block sunlight. Since people born with albinism have no pigment in their eyes, they are extremely sensitive to bright light and cannot see well. Their skin is also sensitive to sunlight and sunburns easily, so they must cover up when outside on sunny days and use sunscreen.

The twins and their 13-year-old sister, Sheila, who does not have albinism, were originally discovered by Vinicius Terranova, a Swiss photographer who saw the girls in a video. Terranova later hired the Bawar sisters to model for his Flores Raras (Rare Flowers) book.  The book is “a portraits set I’m gathering of people whose beauty is often marginalized. A beauty that is not that uncommon but rather rarely perceived while out there everyday, ready to be noticed and given their deserved spotlight,” Terranova said.

Instagram

While not that uncommon, albinism only occurs in about one in 20,000 births worldwide. Interestingly, it is less common in the United States and Europe than elsewhere in the world.

The twins’ parents moved to Sao Paolo from Guinea Bissau in West Africa. It may well be a good thing they did, because of the myths and superstitions attached to albinism in some African communities, where albinism is sometimes associated with or is explained as being the result of witchcraft. In some African countries, the hair of a person with albinism is valuable. Despite that, albinos in Africa can be ostracized and find it difficult to obtain an education or to marry. Even the climate in Africa makes living with albinism difficult.

The three Bawar sisters, however, are finding success in the opportunities that Terranova’s photographs have opened to them. They have already obtained modeling work with companies such as Nike, Insanis, and Bazaar Child. They want to continue in this career and seem self-confident enough to succeed in the modeling business.

“We feel albinism is pretty, we love our hair, eye colour and skin tone. Our hair and skin tone are pretty and we feel very special wearing the make-up, hair and light that are worked to fit us,” Lara Bawar said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Mara added, “Growing up like this was amazing, we love being different and are happy with our unique beauty.”

“We are very expressive and creative. It feels wonderful to put this out there, to communicate with people who identify with our work. We like to see our beauty being valued by its unique aspects,” Sheila said.

The girls have recently opened an Instagram account and now have over 43,000 followers.

It’s been a little over two years since the blue-and-black dress (or was it a white-and-gold dress?) gripped social media, with nobody being able to make a firm decision on what color the dress actually was.

Arguments flowed back and forth between friends, and people wondered how they could see the dress one way but their best friend could see two completely different colors.

Wikipedia

And now the dress has a cousin. Meet the Nike sportswear that’s dealing with the same exact problem.

Pink And White?

Rachael Stewart

When the first image of sportswear came out in July, the person who posted it was fairly positive as to what color it was. In the eyes of Rachael Stewart, it was pink and white, and that was that.

It wasn’t even close to the end of the question.

Almost immediately, differing opinions came in, with some of her friends claiming that the Nike sportswear was actually gray and teal, which look nothing like the suggested colors of pink and white. Once again, the color debate was well underway among friends.

No Help From Nike

Public Domain Pictures

Of course, there was one major difference from the infamous dress. As a Nike product, there was the chance that this mystery could be solved within minutes from taking a look at Nike’s product line. After all, if Nike didn’t sell either pink and white or gray and teal as a color combination, that would make it obvious that it had to be the other one.

However, Nike offers so many color combinations these days that using Nike’s offerings to try to eliminate one of the two options proved fruitless. With so many colleges using Nike to outfit their athletes, it would probably be easier to list the colors the sportswear company doesn’t offer.

Learn why we have these color issues below!

Shadows Fill A Void

Wikimedia Commons

When it comes to seeing color, we’re not really getting a perfect view of what the object’s color really is. What we’re actually getting is the color of light that is reflected by the object in question. For instance, a lemon absorbs all colors of light with the exception of yellow. As the yellow light is reflected from the lemon into our eye, we see a yellow fruit.

But that only works perfectly when shadows aren’t present and when light hits our eyes from the correct angle. When we see items at an angle, the light can alter our perceptions of the color. Moving an object to a different viewpoint can drastically change the shade that we see, and if the shade changes enough, it can appear to be another color entirely.

So What Color Is The Sportswear?

Flickr

Honestly, based on the information that’s available, it’s impossible to be completely certain as to what color it is. With shadows certain to be present in the photo, all you can do is use your brain’s best interpretation of what it sees to make an educated guess on the color.

Whether you’re on the pink/white or teal/gray side, one thing is for sure: These debates are far from over.

Have you ever considered how empathetic animals can be? If you have a pet dog or cat, you’ve probably experienced one of those moments when you’re not feeling great and they’ve come to tuck up in bed with you, to keep you warm and safe.

YouTube

This is, in fact, one of the great benefits of pet ownership for many. It’s more than companionship—it’s about finding a little creature that shares life with you while seemingly sharing your emotional wavelength. You take care of their needs and in turn, they take care of yours.

Tigers And Maternal Instincts

YouTube

Now, there is no point in time where we would suggest keeping a tiger as a pet. Not only would this be incredibly expensive, but it’s also very much illegal in most parts of the world. Then there’s the little matter of you know, being eaten by your pet.

However, it’s worth thinking about captive tigers in a similar context to pets. A tiger in a zoo and a pet share similar relationships with humans. A person is providing food, care, and more—so why shouldn’t a tiger display a similar empathic response as a pet would?

Well, the jury is still out on tigers and their actual maternal instincts. While there have been cases in zoos of tigers becoming wildly distressed when separated from newborn cubs, there have also been plenty of cases where female tigers have rejected their own young.

One Tiger’s Maternal Instinct And A Real Life Mom

Brittany Smith-Osborne recently took a trip to the zoo with her friends. This story wouldn’t normally be news if she and her friends hadn’t visited the tiger enclosure at Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Indiana.

One of Brittany’s friends is Natasha. What makes Natasha stand out in this story, at least, is the fact that she is 27 weeks pregnant.

Given that the tigers are kept safely behind glass with no way to access the public at all, Natasha felt that she would be perfectly safe to approach the tiger enclosure—and this is what happened.

YouTube

Firstly, the female tiger comes up against the glass and is happy to pose for a selfie with Natasha. Then the tiger begins to paw the glass in a playful manner which delights Natasha further.

After a while, the tiger then notices that Natasha is quite visibly pregnant and does a kind of double take. The tiger then goes into full on action proving without a doubt that this tiger has a mothering instinct.

She begins to cuddle the baby bump through the glass. It’s a truly heart warming moment and one which delights both Natasha and her friends.

The good news is that this moment was caught on film by Brittany and she was happy to share it with the world. You can find the video on YouTube here and you can make up your own mind about tiger’s mothering instincts based on the evidence before you.

Have you ever wondered what the secret to living a long, healthy life is?

Perhaps you’ve heard your grandparents talk about strange things they would do, like drink a glass of red wine with dinner every night or have a raw egg or two for breakfast. Or maybe you’ve been sucked into believing that you shouldn’t eat red meat or that you should take up running.

Well, what if there was someone older and wiser who had a different idea? Would you take life advice from a 109-year-old woman?

Meet Jessie Gallan

YouTube

On January 2, 2015, Jessie Gallan celebrated her 109th birthday. She was born in Scotland and grew up in a very small farm cottage. She shared a bed with her six siblings (yes, one bed), and left her home to go to work when she was just 13 years old.

Ms. Gallan worked hard and took care of herself, but there’s one thing in particular that she credits for living such a long life: Avoiding men.

Ms. Gallan Never Got Married

YouTube

“My secret to a long life has been staying away from men. They’re just more trouble than they’re worth. I also made sure that I got plenty of exercise, eat a nice warm bowl of porridge every morning and have never gotten married. I always worked hard and seldom would I ever take a holiday. I left home when I was 13 and began a job milking cows. I always had good jobs with very nice people. It’s amazing to see how completely different the world is now from the one I grew up in,” she told the Daily Mail back in 2015.

Gallan Still Gets In Some Exercise

Gallan truly believes that staying single her whole life helped keep her in great shape. And while she may be one of the oldest living people in the UK, she is still able to move around and get exercise. Perhaps all of her muscles are still limber because she wasn’t stressed out over a man for the majority of her life. Who knows?

“Jessie still takes part in the group activities, she likes her exercise. She goes to all the concerts and enjoys her church on a Sunday. And obviously she has led a very healthy lifestyle,” senior support worker Rebecca Streeter told the Daily Mail.

YouTube

The Oldest Living Woman In Scotland

Gallan became Scotland’s oldest woman in June 2013 at the age of 109. That’s a pretty cool title to have, isn’t it?

Of course, Gallan would tell you that she wouldn’t still be living if she had met a guy and tied the knot! One has to wonder if not having children was also part of it — how many gray hairs have you gotten just from your kids this year?

Gallan might be gray-haired these days, but she’s living her best life, and there isn’t a man — dead or alive — who can claim to have made it better for her.

On January 2, 2015, Jessie Gallan celebrated her 109th birthday. She was born in Scotland and grew up in a very small farm cottage. She shared a bed with her six siblings (yes, one bed), and left her home to go to work when she was just 13 years old.

Ms. Gallan worked hard and took care of herself, but there’s one thing in particular that she credits for living such a long life: Avoiding men.

Ms. Gallan Never Got Married
