Remember back in elementary school when it was cool to brag about how late you stayed up and how little sleep you got? I feel like now people brag about how stressed they are as if there is some social capital around how little sleep we got that week or how all of our social plans had to be sacrificed. I used to think that being stressed meant I was killing it at work and doing a good job because I was *so busy* and doing a lot, but now I realize that when I’m stressed I actually do way worse in every area of my life because I get so burned out and frazzled. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how important it is to have a life outside of work and have other things that contribute to your self worth and identify. A few years ago I realized I had no actual hobby or interests, I just worked, came home, ordered food and watched tv. While I still do this a lot (so many good shows on RN), I make it a point to try and read one day a week, cook my own food when I’m not home too late, or doodle on my tablet if I wake up early instead of laying in bed watching tv or aimlessly scrolling. It’s been super valuable to me to have things besides work that I care about and it’s definitely helped me escape the hamster wheel of stress and no sleep. Anyways, more words up in the stories!
