]]>Aside from being a prop stylist, Unsworth is also a home economist, recipe writer, and tester, so you know she means business. Her clients include Penguin Random House, Twinings, BBC Worldwide, The Guardian, The Times, and Pret a Manger.
“One of the inspiring parts of my job is spending time in prop houses surrounded by all the beautifully curated collections,” shared Unsworth in an interview with Khoollect. “I love rooting through these collections with a brief in mind and bringing the vision together,” she adds.
Her work tends to take her around the world, and Unsworth has lived in many different countries, including England, France, Italy, Australia, and Argentina (which translates into many sources of inspiration). “My wanderlust was inspired by my parents,” she says, “who pulled me and my sister out of school for a year when I was seven and bought the family a round-the-world ticket. I think their boldness rubbed off on me and gave me the guts to move around as much as I did in my 20s. From a food perspective, all the traveling has definitely influenced me and given me a greater knowledge of different cuisines and customs.”

]]>The post For Some, Change Begins With a T-Shirt appeared first on TettyBetty.
]]>Inspired by Maya Angelou’s “Phenomenal Woman” poem (a poem worth googling by all means), lawyer and activist, Meena Harris, created a simple t-shirt stamped with the empowering phrase. The idea was to launch a product that would support non-profit organizations, with all net proceeds benefiting these chosen organizations.
Little did Harris know that what began as a t-shirt would turn in to a whole movement. A couple of years later, and The Phenomenal Woman Action Campaign is well on its way, bringing awareness to social causes and supporting a wide range of initiatives. According to their website, by getting the official Phenomenal Woman t-shirt, you’re not only making a bold statement in support of women everywhere, but you’re also supporting the critical work that’s being done for women’s rights on the ground.
“I thought I was going to create 20 or so shirts and send them off with my friends,” Harris remarked in an interview with Shape. But after the Women’s March, the t-shirt gained traction. “Instead of saying ‘ok, we hit our goal, let me go back to my regular life,’ I thought ‘holy cow, I have to keep growing this, right? We’re really onto something her.’”
Now sported by celebrities and everyday folks alike, the plain t-shirt is proof that change can be achieved within the parameters of your closet.

]]>“I saw too much suffering, I wanted to make people happy instead,” he relayed in an interview with Fashion Stories.
That change came through fashion. Based in Stockholm, Josefi’s fashion label is all about having a good time, with his designs both quirky and original. But though his brand is based around this simple idea, his designs are anything but simplistic. “I approach designing clothes very scientifically,” he notes.
Striving for innovation, his brand created the first 3D printed shoe in the world. In 2015, they also started to use a laser technique as treatment of their jeans to lower the use of chemicals and water. Now, their goal is to be 100% sustainable.
With an eye for fashion-forward design and sophisticated tailoring, combined with high technology and innovation, Josefi’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed. In 2011, he won the first installment of Project Runway in Sweden, and he has received several prestigious awards since.

]]>“It is such a satisfaction when you are creating a new collection, especially when it falls perfectly on the body or when the prints come out beautifully,” gushed Körner in an interview with The Smoke Detector. “When you love what you are doing it doesn’t feel like work and you can work late nights with no problem.”
Still, she notes that the fashion industry, being as tough and as crowded as it is, requires a certain mindset. “It is a lot of pressure (especially starting your own company) and it’s an intense schedule during the whole year,” she says. “That’s why it’s important to find balance.”
Incidentally, balance is also key when it comes to her approach to design. Aiming to create that carefully balanced mixture of powerful grunginess and nordic minimalism, Körner’s inspiration comes from both conceptual themes and architectural perspectives. It’s little wonder that the industry is taking note.
