]]> How many times have you dreamed about leaving everything behind and go on a traveling adventure around the world? Well, one 24-year-old girl broke up with her boyfriend, quit her job and is now living the van life with her dog, Ella.

Sydney Ferbrache from Indianapolis, Indiana worked three jobs to save up to buy her van. Her inspiration came from when she went on a solo trip to South Africa. “I did a ton of research on safety and women in South Africa and I backpacked around Cape Town and Johannesburg for three-and-a-half weeks,” Ferbrache told Insider.

“My parents were petrified the whole time I was there. Everyone was so apprehensive about it. But I knew I would be okay. And when I got home I said, ‘I’m totally capable of doing anything.’ That was my first trip alone, and it really changed my life.”

Although she is constantly on the road traveling all over America, she works full-time from her laptop.

MOOD. 🙃 – Yesterday was a straight up shitty day for a variety of reasons but all I want to say is this… When it comes to sharing our beliefs or spreading a message, be a kind human. Don’t step on others to prove your point. Don’t hurt someone’s feelings to paint your picture. When you do things with hate, aggression, and negativity, more people will simply choose to turn away. You never know what a person is dealing with, you never know where they come from, and you have no idea what damage you could do with your words. Be open to the idea that your original intention is not being perceived the way you planned… and maybe their perception isn’t wrong. Maybe you are wrong. Maybe their feelings do matter. Maybe you could change your method and use compassion instead. This morning we went for a long walk through the neighborhood I grew up in. We walked down the court where I played kick ball with all the other kids, showed Ella the trailhead that leads to my secret hideout, and passed the park where I kissed my first love. My whole life I was so desperate to leave this place. I wanted to escape so badly and would dream of all the places I’d get to explore some day. But it’s funny now that I get to do exactly what I always dreamed of, I drive thousands of miles across the country to get back here. To see the place I deemed mundane and boring. To type this from the kitchen table where I ate breakfast every day before school and had to endure way too many “family talks”. Traveling for me is exciting, intoxicating, and constantly teaches me new things that I would probably never learn otherwise. But being home is familiar, comforting, and re-teaches me all the things I’ve already known but forgot somewhere along the way. – So many of us are desperate to escape. To get out there and leave it all behind. But I wish I would’ve seen this place for what it was all along. Don’t be like me and wait until you return to find the magic where you are now. There’s a kind of beauty in the boring that you won’t find in the excitement.

I never thought of myself as a mom. The word “maternal” was simply a foreign feeling that only described other women in my life. I never dreamed of kids running around or the perfect home for a family. I have an older sister who dreamed of those things so I just dreamed of them for her. I envisioned her with this big, beautiful wedding and me just living life on my own. Both made me happy because I like being alone and she likes being surrounded by those she loves… But then this girl came into my picture, and everything changed. I feel maternal with her. I feel protective and I feel the intense love mothers have always described. She’s a part of me. She’s at the core of every decision, every thought. I never thought of myself as a mom but damn does it feel good to be one. Who knew we could have it all. – This week’s podcast on @mysoloroad is out and all about our babies. Traveling with Ella, logistics of being on the road with her, and the impact it’s had. We also have our first guest, @theasherhouse to give his perspective on traveling with 9 dogs in an RV! ❤
