]]> Have you ever wondered what you get when you combine colorful birds and makeup? Probably not, but we will still tell you the funny secret: the answer is The Pansy Project—a makeup look inspired by drawn birds.

According to Paul Harfleet, the founder of the project, the idea to make a compilation of drawn feathered friends began in April 2020 when the lockdown was announced.

Dearest #BirdLovers. Here in my continuing series where I 'gently reference' the birds I've drawn in #Lockdown is the #Lapwing. So many of you requested I draw and channel this bird. It's such a lovable and elegiac bird, sadly with declining populations, and the reason for my wistful expression here. “As I sat in my apartment overlooking a clearer, quieter London skyline, I noticed the birds more than ever and my passion for ornithology re-emerged,” the artist shared on Bored Panda and added that he began drawing birds he could see from his window.

To promote his work on social media, he came up with a fantastic idea; he began dressing up like his feathered friends. “These humorous and light-hearted shoots used my own wardrobe and makeup skills and became an intrinsic component of a project that has become known as Birds Can Fly,” he added.

Dearest #Birdlovers – Here's a bird that took an age to draw, its incredibly detailed plumage is iridescent so very complex to colour too. This was such a common sight during my childhood, sadly they're on the decline in the UK and are on the 'red' list according to @rspb_love_nature – "Red is the highest conservation priority, with species needing urgent action"… it's a different story in America, in 1890 about 100 #Starlings were introduced in to Central Park in New York. They are now one of the most abundant birds in North America. This continues the series I call #BirdsCanFly, where I also 'gently reference' the birds I've drawn in #Lockdown. Good Morning #BirdLovers. At the start of #Lockdown, when I began to draw birds to comfort my own anxiety in the swirling depths of the pandemic, this was the first bird I drew. I had drawn #BlueTits in flight, for my book; #PansyBoy as I have always loved these jolly little birds. As the #BirdsCanFly project has evolved, I have been delighted that this work has been so loved. Lots of you have asked about a book of #BirdsCanFly and I can confirm that I'm working on it, I am busy writing, designing and working out the very best way to bring this bizarre collection to your lovely little eyes. I will of course keep you posted. As ever I am so very grateful for you 'loves' 'likes' 'comments' and 'shares' – Please do keep on #sharing as it might just help me get a book further into the world… With love Paul x
