]]>“My shop started when my daughter was born,” explained Bream in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I had a desire to rid her room of anything that wasn’t natural (any polyester, plastic, etc.). I was looking for something beautiful in its simplicity and innocence, and I wanted to accentuate that with colorful accessories.”
With that in mind, the Colette Bream brand was born. According to Bream, inspiration comes easy. Her toys and knitwear often have a nostalgic nod to her own childhood, and the natural world also provides her with endless sources of inspiration. “I was always a dreamer as a child and even now children’s aesthetics are very enticing to me as an adult,” she notes.
Naturally, her daughter also plays a role in her brand. “Time goes by so fast and I consider myself lucky to be able to be home every day and watch her grow,” she says. “I cherish taking our daily walks together and seeing the world through her eyes.”

]]>Studying tapestry and Navajo weaving, rigid heddle, and floor loom weaving, has helped her develop her own signature style over, adding a contemporary spin to the ancient craft.
“Weaving has definitely become my life’s work,” Shimek shared in an interview with The Project for Women. “I started weaving in February 2013 when I was visiting my family in Michigan. I took a scarf weaving class and was completely hooked. Ever since I have been taking as many weaving classes as I can and reading books and trying out different techniques.”
“I wasn’t an artist before I started weaving and honestly felt pretty intimidated to jump in,” she admits. But according to her, the weaving community has been amazingly accepting. “All these wonderful people sharing their work and explaining techniques, it really resonates with me,” she says.
Her woven wall hangings are just what our living room is missing.
