Colette Bream’s Toys Are Both Personal and Nostalgic

There’s something very personal and meaningful about a gift that wasn’t mass-produced but rather carefully handmade, and therefore – one of a kind. But let’s face it, not all of us can make something out of nothing. Illustrator Colette Bream is here to help with her line of cozy knits and wooly friends targeted at both kids and adults.

“My shop started when my daughter was born,” explained Bream in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I had a desire to rid her room of anything that wasn’t natural (any polyester, plastic, etc.). I was looking for something beautiful in its simplicity and innocence, and I wanted to accentuate that with colorful accessories.”

With that in mind, the Colette Bream brand was born. According to Bream, inspiration comes easy. Her toys and knitwear often have a nostalgic nod to her own childhood, and the natural world also provides her with endless sources of inspiration. “I was always a dreamer as a child and even now children’s aesthetics are very enticing to me as an adult,” she notes.

Naturally, her daughter also plays a role in her brand. “Time goes by so fast and I consider myself lucky to be able to be home every day and watch her grow,” she says. “I cherish taking our daily walks together and seeing the world through her eyes.”
