“I feel great when finishing a cake. A little relieved too. After looking at something for so long, you kind of just start nit-picking every little thing. I totally do that with my cakes but that’s what makes them even more spot on,” he told Story Trender.

“Baking began as a hobby when I was young,” Vigil told Better Homes &‌‌ Gardens in an interview last year. “My mom would often experiment in the kitchen and she took a cake-decorating class. I was so fascinated with all the beautiful things she made and brought home, so I decided to join her. I’d study her cake decorating books and feel so inspired. At the time, I only knew I wanted to make cakes for my kids like that one day, never really considering I could make a profession out of it. I always hoped I could, though.”

She has two degrees, one in sculpturing, and one in fashion. Dunlop spent 10 years working in the fashion industry, designing bags, shoes, and jewelry for many luxury brands. One day she decided that she wanted to make the career move from fashion to baking.

“I come from a family of home bakers, famed at the local fetes and bake sales, but hadn’t considered it as a career until maternity leave sparked in interest in experimenting how to put together classic baking with a design-led high-end fashion aesthetic,” Dunlop shared on her personal website. “Further experimentation in chocolate work led incorporating bold, graphic patterns, strong colors and a fun playful look.”

She seeks inspiration from architecture, lighting design, textiles, graphic design, print, and sculpture.

Vigil came with this idea two years ago but had a hard time to incorporate it due to the difficulty of obtaining the tools for creating such shapes. She decided to make some herself and soon began creating edible works of art.

“I’ve always found myself at home in a botanical garden or wrists deep in soil,” – said Vigil in a recent interview. “Being in nature has always brought me tremendous joy and inspiration. So, I was inspired to begin challenging myself to create flowers, succulents, and cacti that truly honored and represented botanicals in nature as I knew them.”
