]]> Bentre van de Mouw is a freelance journalist who loves to draw, and she’s out on a mission to help you start liking yourself more.

On her Instagram account, you can find pleasing illustrations with pastel backgrounds, stylish clothes, and most importantly — empowering messages of self-love and acceptance.

“I will give you a few tips to love yourself a bit more,” says the Dutch artist on her Instagram. “It’s not easy and it takes time, but that’s okay. […]  there are tips to make it easier for yourself.” 

Some of van de Wouw’s tips include: “It’s okay to make mistakes,” “Rest when you need to,” “Yeah, you’re cute, but are you good for my mental health?” and “All bodies deserve to be treated with respect because they hold human beings. That’s it. No exceptions.”

“I think it’s important we learn to love ourselves a bit more, and because of society it’s not always easy,” explains van de Wouw. “I myself follow lots of accounts just like mine and it makes me really happy, so that’s why I started one as well.”

Are you? Hij of zij kan nog zo leuk of schattig of mooi zijn, maar het is vooral belangrijk dat die vriendin, vriend of scharrel ook goéd voor je is. En die vraag stel je jezelf een stuk minder snel. Merk je dat iemand energie vreet of je naar beneden haalt in plaats van je laat groeien, vraag jezelf dan af waarom en wat je daar zelf aan kunt doen. Soms is een goed gesprek met diegene al goed genoeg om het te veranderen. Soms betekent het een punt achter een vriendschap of relatie. Ik heb altijd een boek op de bank boven een hangen-in-de-kroeg-met-dronken-mensen-en-bier-in-mijn-haar-avond verkozen. Ik ging, en ga nog steeds gewoon heel lekker op alleen zijn. Sterker nog, ik heb het nodig om weer op te laden. Daar was ik eerst stik-onzeker over. Want het was raar dat ik als zestienjarige liever thuisbleef en om 11 uur mijn bed indook op een zaterdagavond. Ik was saai omdat ik niet zoals de rest alle feestjes afging en hoezo ging ik al vroeg in de nacht naar huis als ik wél verplicht was tot een avondje losgaan? Nu ik ouder (lees fossiel) ben, kan ik dat veel beter accepteren. Vanbinnen ben ik gewoon een klein beetje een oma, die van breien en lezen en vroeg naar bed gaan houdt, en dat is dikke prima. Dus ga je vooral niet schuldig voelen als je stapavond met dE mEiDoN een keer afzegt en toegeeft aan een kneuterige avond met jezelf om even bij te komen van die drukke week. Ana Hard (real name Ana San José) made her first steps in the world of fashion working with industry giants such as H&M, Pandora and Vogue, and it shows. Her illustrations are vibrant, stylish and impeccable. 

Her work is also distinguished by a theme of #GirlPower that runs through many of her creations. Her female models—elegant, daring and assertive—are like a modern-day ‘20s Flappers.

“I am a dreamer, there is no denying it,” she writes on her webpage. “I think one of the reasons why I love Creative Design is because I can see a vision for the future. I have always seen myself as a graphic communicator who adores to connect with the public, bringing them the joy of transforming big ideas into unforgettable images.” 

So what does the future hold for Ana Hard? 

“I always feel very ambitious for a fresh challenge and the possibility of progression, to enable me to fulfill my career goals and build upon my successes.”
