Joongwon Jeong is a South Korean artist who specializes in creating large hyperrealistic paintings that you’d swear are photographs!

But as if painting a picture so minutely that it’s almost impossible to tell apart from a photo isn’t hard enough, Jeong has added another level of difficulty for himself by choosing to give the hyperrealistic treatment to people who never had their picture taken, or some that we’re not even sure ever existed in the first place!

“I try to use as much reference as possible,” he explained his process in an interview to Star2.com. “Photographs are my major reference, but I also use live models and even drawings.”

In one particularly stunning case, Jeong created a magnificent portrait of the legendary Greek poet Homer. Not only are scholars not entirely certain that Homer was a real person, but his only surviving likenesses are statues. How could Jeong create such a lifelike painting out a largely featureless piece of stone?

“Since I could not rely solely on my imagination to come up with the lifelike image of the ancient poet, I found a model who had a similar facial feature with the bust of Homer,” he confided. “And then I combined the image of his real face with the face of the marble bust. The general facial structure was strictly based on the bust.”

The result speaks for itself, and luckily so, as we were left speechless!

<The Story of the Death of Seneca / 세네카의 죽음에 관한 이야기>⁣⁣ ⁣ Lucius Annaeus Seneca was a Roman Stoic philosopher, statesman and dramatist. He was a tutor and advisor to emperor Nero, until he ran out of the tyrant's favour and was eventually ordered to take his own life. His death, which is notably famous for its dramatic quality along with that of Socrates, is recorded in detail by Tacitus;⁣⁣ ⁣ ‘Seneca, as his aged frame, attenuated by frugal diet, allowed the blood to escape but slowly, severed also the veins of his legs and knees. (…)⁣⁣ ⁣ ‘Seneca meantime, as the tedious process of death still lingered on, begged Statius Annaeus, whom he had long esteemed for his faithful friendship and medical skill, to produce a poison with same drug which extinguished the life of those who were condemned by a public sentence of the people of Athens. It was brought to him and he drank it in vain, chilled as he was throughout his limbs, and his frame closed against the efficacy of the poison. At last he entered a pool of heated water, from which he sprinkled the nearest of his slaves, adding the exclamation, "I offer this liquid as a libation to Jupiter the Deliverer." He was then carried into a bath, with the steam of which he was suffocated, and he was burnt without any of the usual funeral rites.’

Hyperrealism is one of the most amazing art forms. It showcases creativity in the highest form. We have seen other hyperrealists create human portraits, but this artist creates hyperrealistic pictures of animals and objects. His pictures will blow you away.

Young Sung Kim, a Korean artist based in London went viral on social media for creating a hyperrealistic picture of a fish in a glass of water. At a glance, it looks like a picture, but looking closely, it is art. Kim takes videos as he draws to show the progress of his work. And his technique is amazing.

He shares his work on his Instagram page, Twitter feed as well as Facebook. On Instagram, he has more than 170,000 followers. Kim says it takes three to ten months to create each painting and he uses oil paint for his work. We found lots of astonishing artworks, but scroll below for a few of our best picks:

Artist in Focus^^🐠 Young-sung Kims' fascination with art began at a young age, with a 9-year old Kim experimenting with drawing specimens of a cicadas (small jumping bugs). He remembers both the positive emotions associated with the painting and the disappointment he felt when he knew it wasn't the best it could be. This drive for perfectionism is ever present in his work. A manifestation of this search for the ultimate realism, Kim scores his paintings on a 100 point scale every time he finishes one. No painting has passed the 90 mark. Kim employs a staunch methodology which involves drawing and planning for new pieces, taking photographs, preparing the canvas, sketching, drawing and then beginning the painting – initially with small brushes working up to larger and larger – most often for 12 hours per day. "It usually takes 3 to 10 months per piece, my longest took 3 years." His technique with photography, offers an insight into how he creates amazing depth in his paintings. He photographs his small subjects (insects, fish, animals) using the best camera and macro-lens combination, enabling him to capture detail often unseeable to the human eye….. “When painting, I look for life in its various manifestations,” this is what Agnieszka Nienartowicz from Poland believes in.

The talented artist studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and in 2016, she earned a Master of Fine Arts at the painting studio led by Prof. Maciej Świeszewski. She was awarded several scholarships and various awards and recognition.

Recently, she re-imagines iconic masterpieces as tattoos of a person. Her paintings are so realistic, they look like photographs.  She uses techniques, close to hyperrealism, giving form to a shapeless mass of paint.

“The works I choose, though being mere objects, seem alive to me. By appropriative fragments of these works, transferring the inseparable thoughts to my own canvas. At the same time, placing them in a completely new context, I deprive them of an artifact. This ambiguity is what I love,” she wrote on her website.

Kei recently posted one of her drawings on Twitter that drew much attention on social media. It was a girl lying in the river, and most of the people were shocked when they realized the painting was just an imagination by the artist. It was so real that many confused it with a photograph. The details and texture are so defined it might be mistaken as a real photo. Take a look at some of her paintings that she created using oil paint.
