]]> Miriam Escofet is an award-winning artist best known for her ultra-realistic portraits. Born in Barcelona in 1967, the 52-year-old artist moved to the United Kingdom when she was 12 years old. Her work has been internationally recognized and Escofet exhibited in both London and Europe.

“I look at paintings as portals – worlds one can visually step into and be transported and sometimes even transformed by,” the artist wrote on her personal website. “I believe the primary function of art is to trigger a moment of transcendence in the viewer, in short to fill one with wonder.”

Escofet is mainly an oil painter, however, she does like to explore other media. Her work took months to finish.

“My technique is extremely detailed, applying many layers and glazes to achieve a sense of space and mood,” she added. “I keep working at a piece until I feel that I have arrived at an expression of palpable space and mood.”

Repost from @pontonegallery – In addition to participating in the esteemed BP Portrait Award Exhibition multiple times — most recently, in 2018, when she earned the BP Portrait Award — Miriam Escofet was also awarded the Burke's Peerage Foundation Prize for Classically Inspired Portraiture in 2015. She works with complex layers of oils and glazes to arrive at a “hyper real expression of the subject matter.” Escofet states, “An oil painting can take months to finish. I keep working at a piece until I feel that I have arrived at an expression of palpable space and mood.” • Escofet’s striking paintings are currently on display in The Albemarle Relaunch at Pontone Gallery. ]]> Mary Bottom is an artist who has been living and working in Maine. Her artistic journey began in her young years when she was a little girl, and since then she has been perfecting her talent.

“I work mainly in oils and love to play with color,” Bottom shared with Bored Panda. “I began learning to oil paint from a family member when I was 11 years old. I fell in love with the medium and have spent the last 22 years working on perfecting my ability to oil paint, especially portrait artwork.”

She seeks her inspiration from many places like vintage photographs, impressionist, and surrealist artists. According to the painter, she loves to combine vintage aesthetics with a more modern, bright color pallet to create artwork that is new, but feels familiar.
