Miriam Escofet is an award-winning artist best known for her ultra-realistic portraits. Born in Barcelona in 1967, the 52-year-old artist moved to the United Kingdom when she was 12 years old. Her work has been internationally recognized and Escofet exhibited in both London and Europe.
“I look at paintings as portals – worlds one can visually step into and be transported and sometimes even transformed by,” the artist wrote on her personal website. “I believe the primary function of art is to trigger a moment of transcendence in the viewer, in short to fill one with wonder.”
Escofet is mainly an oil painter, however, she does like to explore other media. Her work took months to finish.
“My technique is extremely detailed, applying many layers and glazes to achieve a sense of space and mood,” she added. “I keep working at a piece until I feel that I have arrived at an expression of palpable space and mood.”
