Barbie Celebrates 60th birthday With The Most Diverse Doll Collection

One day after International Women’s Day, Barbie celebrated her 60th birthday. The company honored this special occasion with the addition of new dolls and the most diverse collection in brand’s history.

The days when Barbie was a blond with beautiful blue eyes are long gone. The Barbie Fashionistas line features dolls in a wide range of skin shades, eye colors and different body types. This year the group will become more diverse with two new dolls joining – one with a prosthetic leg and another one in a wheelchair.

“As a brand, we can elevate the conversation around physical disabilities by including them in our fashion doll line to further showcase a multi-dimensional view of beauty and fashion”, Mattel said in a statement.

Also, the company rolled out several new additions to its “Role Model” collection. These dolls are inspired by real and successful women, coming from different backgrounds. Their aim is to encourage girls to embrace their potential and become whoever they want.

Some of the notable women that were honored with look-alike dolls are tennis champion Naomi Osaka, British supermodel Adwoa Aboah, and actress Yara Shahidi.
