]]>But oddly enough, it took her quite some time to own her love of anime. “In high school a bit and in college, I was afraid to like anime,” she shared in an interview with Concept Art Empire. “I thought I had to exclusively like Disney and that enjoying series like Naruto and One Piece was a bad thing. It took me a while to accept and understand that there are a lot of people that like both, and that’s totally fine!”
Like most creatives in her field, Chiu took to illustration early on, with manga being the driving force in her creative development. But it wasn’t until her sophomore or junior year of college when she actually narrowed down her career path to art.
Now a force to be reckoned with, her advice to other aspiring storyboard artists is to showcase a bit of variety. “Action, comedy, and drama,” she specifies. “If you can hit all 3 of those beats in, let’s say, 1 large sequence and 1 or 2 additional shorter ones then that’s pretty good. But don’t forget to keep it short and sweet.”

]]>“I think of myself as an artist who was put on this planet to push the boundaries in some way in the creative field and contribute something interesting,” wrote the Sydney-based artist on her website. “My work is all about revealing the hidden wonders of our everyday suburbs, but also delves into histories and stories, especially of a past Australia.”
A creative spirit if there ever was one, Liang doesn’t restrict herself to one medium, but rather works to blur the boundaries between different fields. An illustrator first and foremost, she is also an artist, an animator, and a creative coder, with her artistic process including programming, craft, and illustration. “Being creative is way more interesting when you experiment and play across different fields!” she rightfully suggests.
Having studied design at UNSW Art and Design has allowed her to experiment and play, as she explored different avenues of design that included graphics, jewelry, textiles, and sustainability. “Although I originally studied design, a lot of who I am now in illustration is self-made,” she says.
Her creativity is inspiring on its own. Add to that her high-quality work and you get an artist that is well worth your following.

]]>“Over time my style has evolved,” Dumic said in an interview with Ballpit Magazine. “In the beginning, I used the details and textures to emphasize the story. As I started to deal with animation my illustrations have become simplified and more adapted to animation. Animation has enabled me to express myself in many ways. My style is a combination of smooth and flat shapes which are emphasized by the movement and wide range of colors.”
Aside from his animations, Dumic also illustrates.“Everything starts when I lie down to sleep,” said the Bosnian graphic artist. “I try to write down or sketch all the ideas that are rushing thru my mind. For the animation purposes I make storyboards which I later reproduce in a digital form. The script defines the style. I’m using a wide range of colors to create illustrations. The crucial aspect of animation is timing and emphasizing the right moment.”

Born in Philadephia and currently based in Brooklyn, Simpson has always been fascinated with animation. “I have been playing with animation in some way or another since junior high,” he shared. “I was simultaneously into drawing and video work so animation became a way to merge the two.” And when he isn’t making art you can find him exploring New York City on his skateboard.

“We care about diversity and female empowerment and we joined forces to create a world of playful yet strong characters, full of energy and positivity,” they write on their website.
But funnily enough, Menzies and Reverter’s collaboration began as a sort of mistake.
“One afternoon in February 2018 we decided to do an experiment translating a simple 2D illustration of Katie’s into 3D,” they recalled to It’s Nice That Magazine. “A dozen illustrations later, people started asking if we were a studio, and at that point, we became Cabeza Patata.”

“As the film was animated primarily in After Effects in a sort of unrigged, cut-up style, it meant I could work very quickly and test things out and see how I felt about them,” he adds. “But this process took a long time to develop a structure, and when I was stressing out about it I decided to blow off some steam and try something new, experimenting with traditional 35mm scratch animation – painting inks directly onto 35mm film, using bleach to remove the chemicals on it, all sorts.
“This required very little planning – I allowed myself to just roll with it and see what happened. That’s how the stress-jazzy bits were made – it was actually the most relaxing and fun part of the process!”
