]]>Nick Galifianakis is a cartoonist who uses his talent to create humorous artworks about “pain of dating, mothers-in-law, ‘beneficial’ friends” and much more fun things. However, the artist doesn’t always receive positive feedback about his black-and-white drawings, especially from married couples, maybe because his work is usually “uncomfortable, but true”.
According to his Instagram account, Galifianakis has also been working with The Washington Post for more than 20 years and is the author of the book titled If You Loved Me, You’d Think This Was Cute: Uncomfortably True Cartoons About You where he gathered his best artworks.
On his social media account, he has gathered only 4.5K followers, however, we are sure the numbers will grow more.

]]>But while it’s next to impossible to shut down or tune out, some digital cleansing can help lighten up the mood. Most recently we turned to illustrator and cartoonist Leon Edler for some good cheer. The self-proclaimed comedy nerd shares his cartoons on his Instagram page, amassing thousands of followers.
“I’m a comedy nerd and grew up loving everything from 50s radio comedy to modern sitcoms,” he told Sense of Creativity, mentioning names like Tony Hancock, Seinfeld, and Alan Partridge as some of his comedic icons. And while Edler’s cartoons aren’t strictly Ha-Ha, they serve to lighten up the mood, with an added air of comic nostalgia about them.
“I wanted to make stuff that made people laugh,” explains Edler. “I thought that would be for TV, but I liked how immediate cartoons were. I could draw them and make my friends laugh.” His collaborations and commissions include publications and news outlets like The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Guardian, CNN, and Vanity Fair.
We could all use a good laugh.

]]>“My biggest bit of advice is to make a point to draw for at least 30 minutes a day,” Lowery once remarked in an interview with Travel Channel, when asked for creative advice. “For some, that seems really tough (it seemed impossible for me at first), but I think it’s incredibly important. You’ll find your voice and figure out how you like to work and draw. It’s also a great way of recording your progress as an artist.”
Lowery practices what he preaches. Aside from a steady stream of illustrations posted daily, his Instagram also includes tips and tricks on cultivating creativity. A recent series, titled aptly, “Stay Home and Draw (with Mike Lowery)”, features basic instructions on how to create your own flipbook from the comfort of your writing desk.
“When I was little, I had a grandmother who was an artist and she encouraged my brother and me to keep sketchbooks,” recalled Lowery, explaining the origins of his practice. “Later, I had a college professor who required we draw in one every single day. It really forced me to draw a lot. I used my sketchbooks as a place to experiment with how I draw, what I draw and what materials I use to draw.”

]]>“I find inspiration everywhere,” admitted Jupin in an interview with Art of Choice. “To be honest everywhere and everything inspires me, nothing is really off limits as long as I feel some kind of personal connection to it. Once something catches my eye I begin looking for it in all different settings.”
And like most creatives, his passion for art sparked early on. “I always remember drawing when I was a kid with my cousins,” said Jupin. “My dad is a photographer and my uncle is an animator/painter but watching cartoons as a kid is when I feel that art entered my life. That was my first introduction to drawing, color and the abstraction of reality. Trying to draw cartoons and apology letters to my mom for getting in trouble in catholic school was how I expressed myself and practiced my technique.”
With a BFA from the Otis College of Art and Design, he’s clearly improved his technique, studying both painting and sculpting. We highly recommend you follow his progress on Instagram:

]]>Her playful characters (animal-like and human-like) have caught the world’s attention and Bowsher had already illustrated postcards, books and magazines.
But surprisingly, being a full time illustrator wasn’t her initial goal. “I’ve always liked drawing for myself but never really thought it could be a viable career choice,” she told Lonely Planet.
“I thought I would work in fashion but ended up studying Fine Art at Bath Spa University,” she explained. “As soon as the course started I realized it wasn’t going to work out for me so I switched to Graphic Communication, where I muddled my way through type and font projects for a year until we started working on image-based work. I had a great tutor who spotted my drawings in the margins of pages and encouraged me to draw for projects and that’s where it all started.”
It’s a good thing she listened to her tutor. Her illustrations are truly delighting.

]]>The two artists work side by side to create their happy-go-lucky characters. With collaborations with the New York Times, Apple, and Google, Cabeza Patata are the rock stars of Instagram.
“We care about diversity and female empowerment and we joined forces to create a world of playful yet strong characters, full of energy and positivity,” they write on their website.
But funnily enough, Menzies and Reverter’s collaboration began as a sort of mistake.
“One afternoon in February 2018 we decided to do an experiment translating a simple 2D illustration of Katie’s into 3D,” they recalled to It’s Nice That Magazine. “A dozen illustrations later, people started asking if we were a studio, and at that point, we became Cabeza Patata.”
