Two things become evidently clear when scrolling through Stacey Elaine’s Instagram feed: her love of animals and her love of color. A tissue paper artist and an illustrator, she takes a minimalist approach when it comes to her imagery.

Inspired by her love of plants and animals, Elaine’s creations reflect her fascination with the shapes, lines, colors, and movement found in nature. Using no template or prior sketching, Elaine hand-cuts her designs into the layers of wrapping tissue paper. She then gently applies and seals her designs onto heavy hot press watercolor paper.

“I’m drawn to the bold contrast between the saturated colors of the tissue paper and the bright white background upon which they are adhered,” she notes on her website. With many of her pieces containing intricate hand-cut designs, completing one single piece can take Elaine anywhere from a few hours to a few days.

“Because I don’t draw my designs before cutting them, sometimes it can take a few tries to create the perfect shape or form that I’m looking for, whether it be a flower, insect, or giraffe.”

According to Elaine, she often has only a vague idea of what she wants to make when, which means that sometimes the end result is vastly different from what she originally had in mind.

“My love of animals and color is unabashedly on display in my pieces,” she adds. “And I hope they bring you as much joy when you view them as it brings me to create them.”

Mahnaz Yazdani is an Iranian cartoonist and animator who creates powerful illustrations that highlight the problems of modern society. Her works represent a visual comment, often expressed satirically, on various subjects, including technology, war, human relationships, and more.

Yazdani’s illustrations are often eye-opening and tend to make the viewer realize an issue they might not have been aware of before. For example, one of her illustrations shows a man trying to get across a big gap between his home and his work. However, the only crossing is his Wi-Fi signal, and he’s stuck halfway through because of bad reception. This is a commentary on how people can be at a disadvantage and miss out on all sorts of opportunities just because they don’t have access to the internet.

However, it’s not all dark in Yazdani’s works. This talented artist also often shares funny and heartwarming illustrations that intend to who there is a lot to be optimistic about in the world.

Besides her work in the cartoon and animation fields, Yazdani is also an accomplished director and scriptwriter. In addition, she works as a freelance illustrator for various newspapers and also teaches animation courses at the Universities of Isfahan. You can check out more of her works below.

Agatz is a gifted artist with a background in biotechnology. She’s also the mastermind behind the Instagram page titled Fancy Facts, where she shares colorful illustrations of various facts in a way that makes learning more fun.

Agatz merged her two passions back in college when she was preparing for her exams.

“I have found it incredibly useful to illustrate my coursework in fun ways. It makes it so much easier to understand and remember,” she said in a statement for Bored Panda. “I also include reliable sources, so everyone can read more if they want to, and so they know that these are actually facts, and not just something funny I heard at a bar once.”

She first posted on Instagram back in November of 2020. On her image, you can see various foods, including bread, cheese, wine, and adorable microorganisms. In the illustration, she also included an explanation that much of the food and beverages we consume on a daily basis would not be possible without the help of bacteria or fungi.

Despite her talent for drawing, the artist hasn’t yet collected many followers. If you’re interested in seeing some of her work, check out the gallery below. If you like what you see, follow her on Instagram for more.

Erica Cheah is a talented artist living and creating in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, who illustrates things that happen to her on a daily basis. And many people can relate to her artwork.

Even big names in the illustration world are following her journey, like, for example, the couple behind the Instagram account called Hubman and Chubgirl, or Jang and Fox.

The 16-year-old Cheah’s artistic journey began in her early teenage years when she was only 13 years old. Her aesthetic is simple, and it’s incredibly entertaining for her fans to watch her style develop.

“If you have been following me for a while now, you would know that I am incredibly inconsistent with my drawing style. I guess that’s because I’m exploring my character design,” she shared on Bored Panda.

She also described her works as “comics about being lazy and watching anime because that’s all I am.”

Art is all about expressing oneself and sending a message, and doing so in a way that feels therapeutic. Clearly, Cheah’s doing so in a way that resonates with others!

Experts agree that tourism is one of the most directly affected sectors due to the pandemic, with global tourism hit hard throughout 2020 and beyond. But being the optimists that we are, we try looking for a silver lining.

And if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to make the most of every single moment, and not take for granted the freedoms that we still have.

Until international travel is again permitted—and safe—we’ve found ourselves a temporary residence: Candace Rose Rardon’s Instagram page.

A travel writer and sketch artist, Rardon describes herself as an unofficial cultural anthropologist, inspired by the many cultures she visits around the world (at least when traveling is possible).

But unlike other travel influencers, Rardon chooses a unique medium through which she documents her travels: illustrating. Traveling with a sketchbook and a set of watercolors, she brings to life the places and people she meets along the way.

“At the beginning, I pursued my passion for world cultures through writing,” she explains on her website. “I earned my Master’s in Travel Writing with distinction from London’s Kingston University, before writing for a variety of publications.”

Originally from the state of Virginia, Rardon has spent more than a decade traveling and living abroad, in cultures like India, New Zealand, and Uruguay. “Travel can change us, send us off in new directions,” she stresses. “And—sometimes when we least expect it—help us feel at home.”

At the core of Marsha Robinson’s practice is discipline and symmetry. Known for her botanical imagery and Art Deco-inspired designs (but with an added modern flare), Robinson’s compositions combine the organic with the disciplined, allowing her work to possess a certain fluidity while still maintaining order and structure.

Her aim with her work? To promote a sense of healing. “My brain is constantly lighting up with images and ideas that need to be manifested and given life,” she shared with Four Magazine. “If I were to stop that from happening to focus on other things like sitting in front of a computer or waiting tables, I’d shut down emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.”

But in order for the magic of artistic creation to be achieved, a certain structure should be maintained.“If we as artists want to progress and make magic happen we can’t wait to have a whim of inspiration come our way to get those wheels turning,” says Robinson. Rathe, “we need to find the strength and spark within ourselves at any given moment to get right down to it and produce. It takes discipline, determination, and most importantly, confidence.”

It seems like a lot of work… But you can also enjoy it for afar by following Robinson’s Instagram page. Below you’ll find a collection of her more recent projects:

Struggling to stay positive during 2020, the Denmark-based illustrator started a project where he began drawing experiences that cheer him up. He posted his first illustration at the beginning of March.

“There are a lot of drawings of me and my partner traveling between Stockholm, Sweden, where he currently lives, and Copenhagen, Denmark,” Ip shared on Bored Panda. “From cooking together to eating a bowl of ramen and cozying up with a good book, this project helped me to stay grounded and mindful.”

He also explained that this project helped him improve as an illustrator and storyteller. Although he has only 2,000 followers, people’s reactions are unbelievable.

Let us be honest; in some aspects, living as a woman in the 21st century has some benefits. However, until this day, there are still injustices against ladies all around the globe. So one 31-year-old artist and blogger tries to empower women using her talent and social media platforms.

On her Instagram profile, where she has attracted over 151K followers, Hungary-based Lainey Molnar puts side-by-side illustrations of what society expects from her and how she lives her life. She thinks that pressure on women is created both inside our community and the outside, explaining that some things are still expected from them like hundreds of years ago.

“It is incredibly hard to navigate all of their expectations and reach the milestones society has set out for us,” she shared in an interview for Bored Panda and added that she created a comic-style avatar and began illustrating all the things she is going through as a woman under the pressure of society and life.

Zoe Wodarz’s playful illustrations will provide the visual healing you need in your feed. Known for her colorful approach to illustration, her work often features recurring shapes and patterns, making for a hypnotic, if soothing, effect.

“What I love about art is that it is never standing still,” reflected Wodarz in an interview with The BoomBoom Prints blog, “my peers tell me I now have a slight signature style to my work but really I love to produce art and product design on demand. It is a special challenge to not rely on a medium or style for your inspiration but to let the world around you dictate the trends!”

Based in Minnesota, Wodarz had developed her style over time, and through trial and error. Her creative journey took her through different stops: being a studio artist first, then merchandiser, and lastly a home decor gift-ware product designer. Over the last five years, she has combined her digital skills and fine arts background into a thriving design career.

“I did go to school for Studio Art / Environmental Studies, I also took a Contemporary Art focused semester in NYC and numerous studio classes which shaped my education,” she explains, adding that she is completely self-taught when it comes to graphic design and digital illustration. “I love to combine different media to create new techniques and stretch my skills!” she exclaims.

Life isn’t easy. And it can hit you hard. However, there is always light at the end of the tunnel. You can always find something positive to cheer you up, just like Canadian artist Simon Ip did.

Check out the gallery below if you are interested to see his images. How do you stay sain during these rough times?
