The post Mélanie Johnsson Will Remind You to Take a Breather appeared first on TettyBetty.
]]>Inspired by travel, nature, and the cinema, Johnsson works from her home in the UK, located in a beautiful English seaside town. Her location allows her to spend time walking around lost islands, kite surfing, and surfing. She also enjoys waking up early to catch a sunrise.
Johnsson promotes self-love and mindfulness through simple mantras and brightly colored illustrations. Her Instagram page, in other words, is exactly what we need in this day and age. “Moving to the seaside has been really inspiring,” she told MOO. “I love being able to leave home, walk for four minutes, and be by the sea. I feel terribly lucky.”
“I love working from my home studio because I can control my environment,” she went on to say. “I try to keep ‘normal’ hours for work — although I’m more efficient in the morning, so I tend to start work very early and finish early too. I do the work that needs to be done, but I’m not afraid of pausing in the afternoon if I feel like it. That’s what I love about working on your own terms — you’re free to do what you want and work whenever you’re the most inspired.”

]]>“I’ve always been the art kid,” Simpson told Freelance Wisdom. “I’m from a small town and was pretty coddled as THE artist. Some of my earliest memories have to do with being affirmed in my creativity. I’ve always known I was going to have some sort of artsy career. I studied graphic design to be ‘practical’ but eventually inserted my doodles into projects whenever I could.”
“It’s just what I enjoyed doing. After doing a lot of that and developing a style (which I never sought out to do, just happened by way of drawing a lot), I became equal parts graphic designer and illustrator. Then I wrote my first book (I’d Rather Be Short) while I was at my first job and that launched me into my freelance career.”
Now, her brand Chipper Things sells her printed illustrations that aim to make you a little less grumpy. Every piece in the shop is illustrated by Simpson in her studio in Nashville, Tennessee. But you can also follow her motivational artwork on her Instagram page.

“I always knew I wanted to be in a creative career,” she told Freelance Wisdom. “I came from a line of strong creative women, and that was a huge influence. When I took my first design class, I was hooked! While I was in school, I took on any side project I could to get experience, and eventually, those side projects became more demanding than my full time job.”
With a passion for handmade type, playful patterns, and helping others pursue their creative passion, Griffo will add the pop of inspiration your Instagram feed craves.
