“If you told me 5 years ago: Elona, you’re about to leave your career in finance, travel to some 60 countries and meet your best friends and travel with them, too,” writes philanthropist and luxury travel blogger⁣ Elona Karafin. “If you told me this 5 years ago … I’d say you’re out of your mind.”

A seasoned traveler and Instagram influencer, it’s Karafin’s candid approach to both life and travel that makes her content worth following.

Treating traveling not only as “time off” but also as a self-development tool, Karafin’s posts and accompanying photos provide insight into other cultures and people, and how she treats the world around her with affection and care.

A cancer survivor, Karafin also leads various philanthropic initiatives to help children in underserved communities, and runs a charity for underprivileged kids with cancer.

“Traveling alone takes resilience and an open mind,” she writes on her website. “It takes courage and stepping out of your comfort zone.” But although challenging, Karafin hopes to show others how experiencing other cultures is worthwhile and ultimately life changing.

“I’m so grateful for this life that I get to call my own,” she writes. “What a blessing to be alive.”

Through her posts, she encourages others to have an open heart and mind when it comes to traveling. “You’d be shocked to discover how different your surroundings are when you see them through your own lenses without anyone else’s two cents,” she wrote in one post.

Wanderlust is defined as a strong desire to wander or travel and explore the world. But in 2020, tending to our wanderlust has been harder than ever.

Travel bloggers know this more than anyone. The last year had seen a steady drop in international travel and tourism, and the tourism economy at large has been heavily hit by the coronavirus.

Travel influencer Brooke Saward has shaped her career around travel. The face behind World of Wanderlust, Saward documents her adventures on her personal website and accompanying social media pages, with a staggering half a million followers on Instagram alone.

With over 70 countries under her belt, Saward has a lot of experience when it comes to solo travel. “I travel by myself 90% of the time, yet am sometimes joined by family, friends, and even readers,” she explains on her website.

Her goal is to inspire other women to take a leap of faith and do some solo traveling of their own. “The next question is more often than not ‘don’t you get scared traveling alone!?’ and the answer is an overwhelming no!” Saward declares.

“I often write about how hard it can be at times, but I really do love traveling solo as an experience and think it is something we should all experience at some stage in our lives.”

But like most travel influencers, the past year has seen Saward slow down and stay put. Her stunning photos will inspire you to look for beauty in the far corners of the world—at least when traveling is possible.

Growing up, Oneika Raymond couldn’t ever imagine she’d become the travel guru she is today. Describing herself as a “bona fide travel junkie”, Raymond grew up in Toronto in an immigrant family, with both parents raised in Jamaica. “We didn’t really have much of a culture of travel,” she admitted in an interview with Passion Passport.

The author of the award-winning travel blog “Oneika the Traveller,” these days Raymond is a media personality, journalist, and keynote speaker, with over 115 countries under her belt. Her adventures include having bungee jumped over the Zambezi River, fished for piranhas in the Amazon, and climbed active volcanoes in Guatemala and Ecuador.

According to Raymond, she began traveling fairly late in the game, during her studies in university. “Eventually I realized it was travel that was really feeding me,” she recalls. “It wasn’t necessarily the idea of being away from home, but the idea of discovering, of learning something new every day, of stretching my boundaries and living outside of my comfort zone—that’s what I really enjoyed.”

And while traveling has been largely restricted due to Covid, Raymond’s posts include tips and tricks that will help guide you through these testing times. “It’s a strange time,” she admitted in a recent post. “Protocols and procedures vary wildly by destination and change frequently/rapidly. Be sure to check local, state, and federal public health websites before you travel for up to date information to avoid disappointment or getting caught off guard.”

I SWEAR TO YOU THAT SOME OF OUR FAVORITE TIMES IN OUR LIVES WERE WHEN WE WERE BROKE AF. 💵 I remember this specific photo, we had woken up in a 12-bed hostel dorm and took the public bus to freaking MTV for a general meeting we set up after hours of stalking on LinkedIn and figuring out how the company structures their emails 🤣 Right before we went in, I spilled chocolate milk all over my shirt. They wanted to know how many subscribers we had, but we felt like we had more to offer than just a number representing how viral our videos could be. Nothing came of that meeting, so we walked to the Hollywood Sign, made yet another goofy a$$ video, and took this pic. 💵 You may be broke AF or think life would be better with more money – and like, it IS better…but only on a material level. ONLY 👏🏼 ON 👏🏾 A 👏🏼 MATERIAL 👏🏾 LEVEL 👏🏼 👏🏾 Of course, it’s nice to now be able to afford avocado toast, get TSA Pre-Check, or like, invest in a shirt that costs more than $9.99, but those aren’t the things that make life fun, or *actually* make you happy. 💵 I think we always kind of knew this, but now we definitely know this: it’s such a silly little game – when you don’t have much money, you think that having money will make you so much happier, and then when you get money, you’re just *gradually begins shouting* woRRIED abOUT LOSING IT. WORRIED ABOUT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT DIPPING BELOW A CERTAIN NUMBER…A CERTAIN NUMBER THAT HAS NOW BECOME YOUR NEW ZERO. IT’S RIDICULOUS. 💵 You know what, in the words of Notorious B.I.G., MO MONEY MO PROBLEMS. We can confirm that one too. LIVE YOUR LIFE. AND NEVER LET IT BE ABOUT THE MONEY.

A post shared by DAMON and JO (@damonandjo) on

The self proclaimed “international badasses” practice what they preach, having set out to create a travel space that’s tailored to young travelers. This idea came to them after noticing that a lot of their friends wanted to travel but really just didn’t know how—or were too busy or too scared.

“We started making videos mainly because we found it was fun,” they admitted in an interview with CelebMix. “Nobody really watched them at first besides our friends and family (who we would force to watch), but we enjoyed watching everything we squeezed into our trips—cool, cheap, or free places to go that we thought people should know about. We didn’t see anything like it on television or on YouTube, and that’s when the journey began.”

Through a let of trial and error and some hard work, they slowly build up their audience to where it is today, cultivating a community of nearly 2M+ in total social media subscribers. They might just inspire you to shut up and go.

With travel being increasingly difficult these days and our movement heavily restricted, planning our vacations and even casual hangouts has become a more meaningful experience. The internet has changed the way we experience travel, the way we connect with each other, and the way we seek comfort.

Recently, we’ve taken to Instagram influencers and wife-and-husband traveling duo, Victoria and Steve from Bridges and Balloons. Their online platform offers curated lifestyle and travel content that is well suited for pickier travelers like ourselves, who seek beauty and uniquness.

Favoring a local style of travel, the brand isn’t dedicated to the “must-sees”, but rather offers a way of travel that aims at soaking up the atmosphere and experiencing local life. “We favor independents over chains,” explain the couple on their website, “and while we’re vegetarian, we tend to eat in restaurants that are known to be good for all food rather than just veggie stuff”.

Offering handpicked, unique itineraries, they seek places that have a story behind them, and prioritize the experience over the price, featuring both budget and luxury styles of travel. And traveling with two young children, they also offer some tips and tricks to road tripping with babies.

They’re just the kind of well rounded source of inspiration we need when planning our next close-to-home vacation.

Instagram has launched in 2010 and evolved into a lucrative career opportunity for numerous influencers. According to Bloomberg, Instagram influencers are working in a $1.6 billion market. Being able to make six figures on Instagram is something many strive for and those who succeed are an inspiration to others.

Meghan Young is a rising star with just over 200,000 followers. Young has always been passionate about hiking mountains, but her passion turned into a well-paying job thanks to collaborations with brands on Instagram.

Below are the photos from her Instagram page that will inspire you to pursue your own passion and turn it into a full-time career.

@glographics posted about the unseen or in between moments today, and it resonated with something that’s been spinning around in my head for a while. My job and passion is capturing moments of beauty, whether it’s the play of light and clouds across the mountains or the look of satisfaction on friendly faces after a successful summit. These moments are more than just aesthetically pleasing; they represent the culmination of hard work and careful planning. I want to celebrate them, and I want to linger in them when I return home. However, I rarely post about the other parts. The trail sweat, dripping down our backs as we grumble under the weight of 40+ pound packs. The nights we spend shivering in the cold, dreaming of warm beds and central heating. The pile of blue bags we sometimes have to carry home, stinking in the hot sun. I rarely take photos of these moments because they don’t call to me, though they do often make an appearance in my stories. The question then becomes, what’s my responsibility, if any, to showcase these things? Is it enough to write about them and sometimes share short clips via stories?Should I post every photo with the disclaimer that it represents 1/400th of a second of time, not the entire journey? What’s your responsibility as a consumer of media to think critically about the inherently static nature of a photo? How do you check your assumptions about a person or an adventure when you begin constructing a narrative based on a single photo? What are the moments that you choose to leave out, and why? I would love to hear more!

Instagram is usually considered a young people’s social network, unlike Facebook, where our moms and grandmas love to hang around.

Well, Helen Ruth Elam Van Winkle, also known as Baddiewinkle, doesn’t really care about that. She turned 90 this year and she’s the most fabulous grandma the internet has ever seen.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BoMvuVPgW5v/

What did she do before she became an Instagram influencer with nearly 4 million followers? “I had a little 6-acre farm. I took care of it by myself for 15 years. I did everything that you’re supposed to do: mowed, trimmed, had a little garden. I kept busy at all times,” she shares.

It all started when her great-granddaughter wanted to capture her outfit one day, thinking she looked cute. It went viral and it all spiraled from there.

Instagram influencers come in all shapes and sizes. For Tara Whiteman (aka Tara Milk Tea), Instagram is a pastel-hued universe, filled with flowers, cake, and wanderlust.

Describing her style as “playful, vibrant and chill all in one”, Whiteman’s eye for color and style has attracted some 1.3 million followers to date. “It’s not just about capturing the scene,” explained the young entrepreneur in an interview with Buro Malaysia, “it’s beyond that. It’s about transporting people to different places and seeing things in a different light. I also love to experiment.”
