Mattel Releases Tina Turner Barbie Doll

Toymaker Mattel recently presented the newest addition to their Barbie Signature Music Series. The latest music star to get the Barbie makeover is legendary singer Tina Turner. She follows a number of other famous music acts honored by Mattel in the same way, including Elvis Presley, David Bowie, and Gloria Estefan.

Tina Turner’s Barbie doll is inspired by the singer’s iconic hit “What’s Love Got to Do With It” and mimics the outfit Turner wore in the music video for the song. This includes a denim jacket, teardrop earrings, a black mini skirt, and, of course, Turner’s signature hairstyle.

Mattel made Turner’s doll available on their online shop for $55 and the first batch sold out in a matter of days. It is unclear if and when the doll will be available again.

“She went from singing as a young girl in her rural church choir in Nutbush, Tennessee, to becoming the legendary performer hailed as the undisputed “Queen of Rock’ n Roll.” Barbie celebrates the unprecedented music career and journey of Tina Turner,” says the description on Mattel’s website.

“What’s Love Got to Do With It” was released in 1984 as the fifth single from Turner’s album Private Dancer. The track reached No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 while receiving three Grammy Awards.
