Most people don’t find insects beautiful and instead think of them as gross, but Yumi Okita is not among them. This North Carolina-based artist is fascinated by these small creatures and uses them as the main inspiration for her art. Using fabric that she paints herself, thread, feathers, and other materials, she creates beautiful renditions of butterflies and moths.

Unlike many other artists who create insect art, Okita’s works are huge in size. She designs them so they can be displayed hanging from wires, and they measure up to 9.5 inches wide and around 3.5-4.5 inches tall. Despite being made out of fabric, they are surprisingly realistic. You can be tricked into thinking you’re looking at live creatures before you get too close. How scary would it be running into such a big moth for real?

Okita sells artworks on Etsy so you can check out her store if you’re interested. Make sure to follow her on Instagram as well because her work is truly fascinating. Seeing the insects in the photos is not as scary as in-person; it’s actually quite beautiful. She only has around 6k followers for now, but we believe that people are yet to discover her talent and give her support.

At the core of Marsha Robinson’s practice is discipline and symmetry. Known for her botanical imagery and Art Deco-inspired designs (but with an added modern flare), Robinson’s compositions combine the organic with the disciplined, allowing her work to possess a certain fluidity while still maintaining order and structure.

Her aim with her work? To promote a sense of healing. “My brain is constantly lighting up with images and ideas that need to be manifested and given life,” she shared with Four Magazine. “If I were to stop that from happening to focus on other things like sitting in front of a computer or waiting tables, I’d shut down emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.”

But in order for the magic of artistic creation to be achieved, a certain structure should be maintained.“If we as artists want to progress and make magic happen we can’t wait to have a whim of inspiration come our way to get those wheels turning,” says Robinson. Rathe, “we need to find the strength and spark within ourselves at any given moment to get right down to it and produce. It takes discipline, determination, and most importantly, confidence.”

It seems like a lot of work… But you can also enjoy it for afar by following Robinson’s Instagram page. Below you’ll find a collection of her more recent projects:

Feeling like you’re missing out on the great outdoors? Textile artist Emily Yeadon will help you reintroduce the natural world back into your life; in textile form, that is. Her delicate creations include faux taxidermy of insects and wood critters. There are even textile versions of fungi and moth, so you can experience the backdrop of the forest as well.

Incredibly enough, Yeadon taught herself the art of hand embroidery and sewing. “One evening, I randomly decided to dust off my old sewing machine and rekindled my love for textiles,” she recalled in an interview with Enchanted Living Magazine. “I gradually began to incorporate fabrics and machine and hand embroidery into my wire creations at the very end of 2017,” she adds.

Based in Haworth, the UK, her inspiration comes from her natural surroundings. “My favorite way to seek enchantment is by taking long walks,” says Yeadon. Having grown up in the countryside, deep in the North of England, Yeadon’s home was surrounded by open fields and ancient woodlands, while in the distance, the Yorkshire Dale mountains towered above the horizon.

“I’ve always loved climbing mountains in the Lake District with my dad and our family dog, Toby,” she says. “That moment when we finally reach the summit—icy winds whipping around us as damp heavy clouds form a blanket over our view. A peaceful moment in nature, tranquil and calm.”

There’s a majestic beauty to the animal kingdom that often transcends words — but Manchester’s Emma Jayne manages to capture it with bold and imaginative colors.

Listen, we all know that spiders aren’t pink, panthers aren’t light blue and eagles, usually, do not resemble a rainbow. But when Jayne gives her animal subjects the psychedelic treatment, it somehow seems right. She manages to show the familiar in an unknown light and creates an entirely new experience for us viewers.

One strong theme that runs through Jayne’s work is her affection for aquatic scenery and marine mammals and fish. Many of her best works feature whales, dolphins, sharks, and even mermaids and mermen.

Insects also feature quite heavily on Jayne’s Instagram page. From the solemn beatle to the playful grasshopper, our six-legged friends appear in a variety of shiny and uplifting colors.

So if you like animals, and you want to experience something completely wacky and fun, give Emma Jayne’s illustration a look. With 1,145 posts on Instagram to date, it’s guaranteed to give that psychedelic itch a good and thorough scratch.

Recent studies have shown that 40 percent of insect species are in decline, with some of the insects most affected including bees, butterflies, moths, and beetles.

This unsettling information alarmed scientists as well as many nature lovers who are now trying to figure out why this is happening and raise awareness about this issue.

Adrienne DeLoe is one of the people who decided to use her skills and talent to help this worthy cause. DeLoe is creating insects-themed artwork in which she gives them “the defense mechanisms they so desperately need to survive the modern world”.

“It is my intention to raise awareness about the population decline that insects are currently undergoing. They are so important to our ecosystems and their decline is something that puts all of us at risk”, wrote DeLoe on Bored Panda.

Preserving nature through her art is something DeLoe is very passionate about and thousands of people on Instagram seem to have recognized that.

Scroll down to see some of her inspiring creations.
