]]>Buoy is constantly amazing tattoo enthusiasts and social media users with his charming tattoo designs that feature cute and silly animals alongside other goofy characters. Some of his past designs include a frog eating a watermelon, a hedgehog riding a skateboard, and a cat looking at its reflection in a glass of water.
According to Buoy, his love for animals is the biggest source of inspiration for his designs. This is particularly the case with frogs, which are among the most demanded motifs among his clients.
“Basically, I love all kinds of animals, so I tried a lot of different types. For the frog, I love the mindless facial expression, like they have no idea what is going on. And I think a lot of my followers feel the same way!” Buoy told Bored Panda.
Buoy is based in Seoul, South Korea, but thanks to the magic of social media, his tattoos have found admirers from all over the world. Tattoo enthusiasts sometimes come to Seoul just to get inked by Buoy, while the artist himself also travels to foreign countries in order to meet the high demand. For example, he is visiting Australia in April, and all of the slots have already been booked.

]]>“In both fields I am working with a client who wants something very specific, and I need to be able to take their ideas and improve on them in a way that both fulfills their requirements and my own artistic vision,” Wiedemann shared in an interview with Female Tattooers. “Usually, the most difficult part of my job in both fields is frequently being asked to draw something that has been done countless times over and try to make it unique.”
Inspiration for both practices comes from anatomical museums around the world. Wiedemann admits she was especially drawn to the centuries-old wooden cabinets that hold life-sized wax anatomical models in La Specola in Florence, Italy.
Her work, whether on paper or skin, has a gothic edge to it, which is well intended. The overall aesthetic might appeal to illustration lovers and emo kids alike. The main themes include insects, skulls, the human body, and mythical beings.
“I am fortunate enough to have two careers that I love, which have ultimately merged together,” says Wiedemann. “I can use tattooing as the medium for my love of scientific imagery. It is such an honor—not only to be taught how to tattoo—but also having the trust of my clients who will wear my art on their bodies for the rest of their lives.”

]]>“He let me try it out and eventually, he became my first client. Then I offered free tattoos to everyone I knew,” Kozokaro said in an interview with Inked Magazine. His goal is to design tattoos that are as minimal as possible.
“I tried to find a way to express my classical painting knowledge within a size that could fit people who can’t commit for a sleeve or big work. In design, I believe that less is more.”
Currently, he is a member of Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy’s gang, which crew is known to inked celebrities, including Justin Bieber, Rihanna, and Miley Cyrus.

]]>While a palm-sized tattoo usually takes between 1-2 hours, a hand-sized one takes 3 hours, and back pieces can vary from 22 to even 40 hours depending on the size, detail, and coverage.
“When clients come in, I already have a good idea of what they want, because at that point we’ll have already emailed or talked about it over the phone,” said Bouma in an interview with The Great Discontent, talking about the tattooing process. “Then I draw up the design and get the A-OK from the client before making a stencil. Once the stencil is made, I put it onto the person’s skin, and we decide on a placement that they like. Then we make it happen.”
According to her, the setup is clean and sterile, much like it is with a machine, except for the tools she’s using. But as her method of choice is considered more avant-garde, so was her training. Practicing first on her friends, she started out by working out of a private loft space in her friends’ apartment. “I was doing it on the down-low, and I was on edge because it wasn’t an official shop,” she said.
Now, with more than 100k followers on Instagram, she doesn’t need to keep a low profile any longer.

]]>The Michigan-based cosmetic tattoo artist uses cosmetic tattooing to apply natural looking freckles in the shape of astrology signs constellations. “It’s a cute, personal, secret way to connect your sign and the universe to your body,” Knapik told Dazed & Confused Magazine.
“I’m super into metaphysical things; astrology, crystals, setting your intentions, and I’ve been getting more into tarot,” she admitted. “Really all of it relies on moon phases, seasons, planet position, and kind of thanking the universe for the things you already have, while also asking for things you may need in your life. So around the end of 2017, late one night AstroFrecks popped into my head.”
To her surprise, the trend quickly caught on. “Truth be told, I thought for sure I would post my first AstroFrecks picture on Instagram and a bigger artist with more followers would snatch it up and copy it, and I’d be left in the dust. But by some interweb miracle Bustle found it in under 24 hours. The day after that it was in Cosmo Australia.”
“All my clients are so diverse,” she said. “A lot of people love the astrology aspect, but I also get a lot of girls who want freckles because their moms or grandmas have them and they find them so beautiful but they naturally just never got them.”

Whatever the case is, her creations are unique and playful, verging on the absurd. “My drawings are never too serious or boring,” she told femtastics. “At least I hope so. I would call my style surrealistic.”
“I like to paint vases or hands,” she added. “Basically, I try to combine different, mostly contradictory things in one picture. That result is always exciting. But faces are my absolute favorite motif.”

]]>Ever since she was a little girl, Fernandes loved to draw, but the fact is, she’s not particularly good at it. Three years ago, she did her first tattoo for her boyfriend, just for fun. At first, her friends got interested in her work and later this hobby turned into a business. Apparently, people liked her unique drawings.
“I think people like my style because of how cute and funny it is. But it’s a number of things. People don’t just like my designs, they also like my pictures, captions and stories on Instagram. Stories that explain my tattoos and help them relate to them. A tattoo is something very personal and I try to make the entire experience of getting it as nice as possible. I spend as much time on my customers as they need, we talk and develop ideas together.”
Now, Fernandes has her own tattoo shop in her native city of Salvador de Bahia. It’s called Malfeitona – in Portuguese, this means “badly done”.
