Illustrator Uses Real Flowers to Enhance the Dresses she Draws

Grace Ciao is a fashion illustrator based in Singapore. She loves to combines fashion with art and draws inspiration from the beauty she finds in nature.

Using paints and flowers, she creates sophisticated hand-drawn gowns, showcasing the soft and delicate beauty of petals. Her designs have been sought after by the world’s leading brands such as Chanel, Dior, Fendi, Elie Saab and Jaeger-LeCoultre.

The idea of using flowers came about when she caught a wilted rose at her desk while she was drawing. Despite its withered look, it still looked beautiful and she decided to “immortalize its elegance and beauty.” She immediately added the petals to her fashion illustration she was working on.

Since then, flowers have been an essential medium in her art and Ciao hopes to capture their delicate beauty. “Imagine the soft and impermanent flower petals adding to a flowing form of a dress, their delicacy and exquisiteness mimicking those of a delicate fabric,” she wrote on her website.
