]]>Sometimes, these creatures have an “alien” feel to them, looking like they have traveled from another corner of the universe to visit Earth. Other times, they seem like ancient spirits who have woken up and are now roaming nature.
Hansen grew up in rural Idaho before moving to Bali, where he set up his workshop. There, he works with local artists to refine his techniques and explore new approaches to various mediums, ranging from woodcarving to metalworking.
In a recent chat with NASH AND BANKS, Hansen said that the inspiration for his art comes out of “curiosity, beginner’s mind, my childhood in rural Idaho, traveling and constantly learning and adapting”.
“But I wonder if inspiration is coming from me or through me? I mostly don’t feel a sense of ownership over what is coming through, only an appreciation for when creativity does flow,” Hansen added.
The central aspect of Hansen’s art is his commitment to a handmade approach and use of natural materials like wood, metal, bones, and plant fibers. Most of the materials that shape his sculptures are recycled or salvaged.

]]>Unlike many other artists who create insect art, Okita’s works are huge in size. She designs them so they can be displayed hanging from wires, and they measure up to 9.5 inches wide and around 3.5-4.5 inches tall. Despite being made out of fabric, they are surprisingly realistic. You can be tricked into thinking you’re looking at live creatures before you get too close. How scary would it be running into such a big moth for real?
Okita sells artworks on Etsy so you can check out her store if you’re interested. Make sure to follow her on Instagram as well because her work is truly fascinating. Seeing the insects in the photos is not as scary as in-person; it’s actually quite beautiful. She only has around 6k followers for now, but we believe that people are yet to discover her talent and give her support.

]]>According to the artist, these unique works have been partially inspired by the time he spent in Rome, Italy. Seeing the works of some of the best sculptors of all time in person, Smith decided to turn them into something new but still familiar.
“I feel like so many of my ideas start out as jokes, for better or worse,” he once explained his creative process.
The process of making the sculptures for “Crush,” which is comprised of six pieces, including compressed versions of Bernini’s “David” and “Apollo of Belvedere” by Giovanni Angelo Montorsoli, was long and complicated. It included making a detailed 3D model of the sculpture and then compressing it into a cube. The compressed version would then come to life after being carved into cubic meter-sized marble cubes.
Smith relied on a big team to achieve his vision, including a group of carvers, digital researchers from various museums, and a seven-axis reductive robot.
The completed sculptures are currently on public display at The Hole gallery in New York City. You can also check them out on Smith’s official Instagram or by scrolling down.

]]>Give Cole a bunch of objects, and the talented artist will know exactly what to do with them. No matter whether it’s a pile of plastic bottles or a closet full of high heels no one needs, Cole has the ability to put together even the most random objects into an intricate art piece.
“My interest or my habit is to work with objects that have had close intimate contact with human beings. The things you touch hold onto a part of you. My interest is then to extract and reveal the spirit in any object I use.”
While Cole works with all sorts of recycled material, most of his works have a more profound meaning and background. For example, his Air Mask series is dedicated to his friend and fellow artist Mark Morse, who died from an asthma attack. The collection was created out of defunct hairdryers, which Cole found in one abandoned building shortly after.
Cole frequently displays his works in exhibits in museums and galleries in the United States and abroad. You can also check out more of his pieces on social media or by continuing to scroll.

]]>The London-based artist has always been inspired by the animal kingdom, more specifically by the shape and sculptural forms of animals. To create the 3D masterpieces, she uses wire and other materials, which eases her process and allows her to add changes whenever she feels they are needed.
“I increasingly use recycled and discarded materials as I enjoy the challenge of transforming something with a past history into something new and exciting,” she wrote on her website and added that her steampunk sculptures are, mostly, done to private commissions.
Sculptures of birds, dogs, cats, zebras, and horses are just some of the art pieces Franc has showcased in her Instagram gallery. In one of her posts, she also mentions that her Bisto the Badger sculpture was seen by Queen guitarist Brian May himself.

“Ronit Baranga is a contemporary Israeli artist who lives and works in Israel,” his website reads. “As a sculptor and installation artist, she creates figurative art on the border between living and still life, dealing with emotional states and relationships.”
Her work has been shown in numerous galleries and museums all over the world, including Banksy’s group exhibition Dismaland. The artist holds a degree in Psychology and Literature fro Haifa University. She’s also studied Art History in Tel-Aviv University and Fine Arts in Beit Berl College.

]]>The talented man said in an interview with My Modern Met that he enjoys breathing life into something that most people consider junk. “I love working with scrap bicycle chains and sprockets in particular for a plethora of reasons, including the fact that they are highly conducive to geometric designs, and they come in a variety of metallic finishes that often take on colorful patinas when heated,” he said.
Evans is a big fan of cycling, nature, and sustainable living, and he found a perfect way to combine all of these interests into an amazing hobby. The artist’s love for nature can be easily noticed in his sculptures, as most of them are inspired by trees, animals, and other motifs from nature.

]]>Elena Zaycman’s glass sculptures will add a playful twist to your home. Centered around the natural world, they feature butterflies, moths, and plants, made using the Tiffany technique. Based in Saint Petersburg, Zaycman sells her unique pieces through her Etsy shop.
“When I began working independently, I started with small suspended pieces,” she shared in an interview with the Etsy blog, “but I wanted to take the idea of hassle-free installation even further and create something where people wouldn’t need to worry about nails or drilling holes in walls.”
Her solution? Attach the stained-glass pieces to brass bars, achieving independent objects that can easily be brought into peoples’ homes, with no hassle of actually hanging them. Naturally, the quality of the materials is equally important when it comes to their design. “I measure the quality of the glass not only visually, checking for color and cleanliness—or the lack of any extra coating—but also by touching,” says Zaycman. “Glass should be pleasant and smooth.”

]]>“My works are like a puzzle,” admitted the Russian artist in an interview with Another Fine Mess, “people try to find different recognizable shapes that are mixed with abstract geometry. It could be anything, a man walking with his dog, or a large family waiting for their lunch. There is always a story to be found in my works. I try to show typical situations from a different angle.”
His work entails a process of composition and decomposition — a style that was inspired by constructivism and neo-plasticism. Based on abstract shapes and chromatic variations, Luka’s creative language is also informed by his background in architecture.
Though there’s an overall coherence in his undeciphered language, Luka’s methods and techniques vary and include spray paints, acrylic paints, sculpting, and collage art. Each piece begins with a sketch on paper. It is only when the sketch is done that Luka chooses the technique he prefers for realizing his idea.
The result, though puzzling, is worth looking into.

]]>“When these cookware sets get into my workshop, they lose their primary purpose. They get involved in my artwork and get bored, as from now on, their only job is to serve beauty,” the Lithuanian artist revealed and explained that with his artwork he is “in constant search of the connection between inner and outer, shape and content, improvisational structures, and strictly built rational order.”
While browsing through his gallery, you will find a variety of sculptures, mostly animals, but he creates other creatures as well. He started his artistic journey back in the 1980s and his masterpieces have been seen by residents of his hometown Jonava.
