Bethany Hernandez is just 22 years old when she became a helicopter pilot and a flight instructor. In the world today, only 5% of pilots are female and she is one of them.
Her inspiring story was featured by photographer Alex Zyuzikov, who was searching for helicopter companies to take him up for landscape images above the city. Bethany was the one who answered his call and after doing his research, Alex came across to her Instagram account.
The first photo Bethany posted was being in a toy helicopter which she captioned, “Give me a couple years to make my dreams come true.”

Several years later, her dreams came true and she is now a fully licensed pilot and a flight instructor too. Her journey did take a lot of hard work and challenges but she just kept on going until she finally reached her destination. She said that the fact that she was a female created more difficult situations in the past. Despite the trials, it motivated her to become better and stronger.
“I finally earned a bit of respect around here as all of my students these days are guys. It’s pretty cool to swing my hair around every now and then,” Bethany said when asked about being a flight instructor.
According to Alex, one of the amazing things about Bethany is how much she loves her job. Her story will surely inspire other young women to do great things just like Bethany.
