Merlin the Cat Will Inspire You to Adopt (Don’t Shop!)

The first thing you notice about Merlin, the water-bottle-sized cat, is his mystical milky eyes. Those are the unfortunate byproduct of his blindness. But being the feisty cat that he is, his blindness doesn’t seem to hold him back.

“Honestly, we forget that he has blind eyes,” admitted his owners, Nathanial Green and Elliot Green, in an interview with Bored Panda. “When we first moved to our apartment, he definitely had trouble navigating, but he learns quickly and really knows how to own the space… All he really cares about is where the food is and how far away it is from his dads.”

Now, with more than 120k followers on Instagram Merlin is living it up. The Greens (both of whom are visual artists) manage his Instagram, where they share the ins and outs of his day to day.

But life wasn’t always easy for the adorable kitty. Placed for adoption at the Lynchburg Humane Society, his owners first fell in love with him after visiting a “Free Cat Friday” event. “The lady who had shown us around eventually noticed us indecisively meandering,” Elliot Green recalled. “She stopped to tell us that she had a favorite, but that he had some issues and was sick. She took us to the medical wing to show us this tiny kitten who was recovering from a head cold.”

“As a full-time student also working two jobs, I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to provide Merlin with the attention he needed,” he explained. But then he held him to his arms. “As soon as I got to hold him, I think it was pretty obvious that he was perfect,” he says.

Perfect indeed!
