Alex Steele’s Art Is Good Enough to Wear

Alex Steele combines illustration with fashion, creating wearable art pieces that stand out in the crowd. Involved in the whole process, from fabric dyeing to painting and printing, Steele’s signature style is minimalist and chic.

In addition to her wearable creations, Steele also works as a muralist and photographer. “I have a pretty extensive background in art, I went to multiple art schools from the 6th grade through college,” she told the Eat, Sleep, Denim blog. “Beyond college, I broadened my creative skills through visual merchandising, taxidermy, gallery installation, and museum diorama creation/installation.”

“I definitely consider myself a multidisciplinary artist, and I am always curious to learn more and experiment with new mediums,” she added. “I am currently involved with designing and creating my eponymous brand of clothing, jewelry, and home goods.”

Her wearable art includes accessories, shoes, dresses, and dungarees. With so many unique creations it’s hard to choose a favorite!
