Ali Cavanaugh is an artist from St. Louis who uses watercolors to create dreamy portraits of women. She calls them “modern frescos,” as they are similar to the fresco-secco painting style.

Cavanaugh includes minute details of her subject’s appearance in every portrait and at the same time evokes a “tender unseen presence that transcends understanding in the depth of a soul.”

Her work can currently be seen at the Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art in Wausau, Wisconsin, but if youvisir the museum, check out her Instagram and Facebook profiles.
