Artist Makes Ingenious Bookends That Are Replicas Of Japan’s Back Alley

Monde is a Japanese artist who makes exciting and innovative creations that can be used in our everyday life. Recently, his art project called bookshelf dioramas has been getting a lot of positive reviews from people across the internet.

He had this amazing idea to create a replica of a city on a shelf two years ago. “Two years ago, I worked on the theme of “Tokyo decorating on the shelf.” I thought that it would be interesting if I made a back side of the alley in the gap between bookshelves,” Monde told Buzzfeed Japan.

He finally curated the design today after working with “materials” that you see in daily life.

“It was the first time that the work had echoed so far. I made a thing that I would like to make in a small way, not only in Japan, but also for people overseas such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada,” he continued.

The wooden shelf is formed to fit between two paperback books, adding lights to give a dimly effect to the back alley. He initially introduced his dioramas at the international art event Design Festa and received a vast interest in his project. The creative bookends are detailed replicas of the narrow back alleys of Japan.
