Artist Paints Hyperreal Object From The Past That Never Actually Existed

Jeff Bartels is a Canadian artist who combines hyperrealism with aspects of surrealism. In his latest project called Alternative Artifacts, the artist painted oil paintings which feature a meticulously detailed, hyperreal object from the past that never actually existed.

Alternative Artifacts is my first series of Post Truth Realism paintings which feature strange antiques that never existed,” Jeff shared with Bored Panda. “The name is derived from a White House official who described falsehoods told by the Trump administration as ‘alternative facts’. The series stretches and bends the truth about our past in order to bring attention to deceptions going on in our world today.”

Jeff’s work has been featured in galleries and museums all over the world including Canada, Europe and South Korea.
