Los Angeles-based artist Alex Gross got inspired by both the past and modern times for his latest series of artworks. Gross takes vintage photos from the 19th century, which, due to their dimensions, were also known as cabinet cards, and transforms them into modern pop culture-inspired trading cards.
This way, unknown men and women from the Victorian era become superheroes or influential pop culture figures in his works.
“I absolutely love old photos and vintage pictures,” Gross told Vivianite. “The Victorian era is the time when I would have liked to live.”
