Artist Uses Discarded Books as Canvas and Creates Impressive Artwork

American artist Mike Stilkey is on a mission to give old and discarded books a new life. Stilkey uses books that people don’t want to own as a canvas and is able to create impressive pieces of arts that way.

His works can be observed as a mixture of paintings and sculptures, since he often experiments with the size of the creations that can go up to 25 feet.

According to the artist himself, although the artworks can vary in size, they always revolve around same topics which include “a melancholic and at times a whimsical cast of characters inhabiting ambiguous spaces and narratives of fantasy and fairy tales.”

“I find inspiration in everyday life,” – Stilkey tells My Modern Met. “I also really enjoy going to the library. I will gather twenty to thirty books, bring them home and peruse them. I’m always looking for something to spark my imagination.”
