Traveling solo is one of the most empowering things you could possibly do, but it can also be extremely terrifying. Ashlee Major-Moss experienced this first-hand, but she managed to put the fear behind her and gain the courage to hit the road and become a full-time traveler.
Major-Moss found herself in a pretty dark place before becoming a travel influencer with over 170,000 Instagram followers under her belt. She lost her job, her relationship, and herself, but traveling helped her find her way back to things she really wanted to do.
After several solo trips across Asia, her online platform started growing and she later managed to turn it into a full-time career. She connected with a lot of solo travelers while staying at hostels, but her content is much different these days, and she’s using her platform to promote lavish hotels around the world.
Despite her success, Major-Moss has always been open about the fact that traveling solo isn’t a bundle of roses, especially for women of color.
“You have to stay vigilant and make smart decisions. I have definitely had frightening and uncomfortable situations. But I think it’s really important to get comfortable being uncomfortable, it encourages you to grow and open your mind to new and amazing experiences,” she writes on her official website.
