DQ’s Illustrations Turn Everyday Life Into a Vacation

It’s not every day that you find an illustrator that really stands out on Instagram’s reservoir of talent. But such is Diyou Wu (aka Decue Wu, aka DQ). Describing herself as “a foodie who happens to draw,” Wu’s illustrations are colorful, joyous, and bursting with spirit.

Focusing mainly on food, fashion illustration, and her cat Sashimi, her Instagram fan base is steadily growing. Wu also runs an Etsy shop where she offers cards, pins, and more.

“I like working on editorial projects; it challenges me to think creatively and broadly,” she told VoyageLA. “Most of all, I like to step out of my comfort zone and continue to grow into the artist I’ve always dreamt of being.”

Born in Shenzhen, China, Wu moved to the US when she was 22 years old, and earned her MFA degree from MICA’s Illustration Practice program in 2014.

“I have been influenced by my mixed culture and languages, includes Mandarin, Cantonese, and Hakka,” she added. “I was a very curious child, but also easy to give up on things. I have taken piano classes, Taekwondo, Chinese traditional ink calligraphy, drawing, and dancing… but drawing has been the only passion that’s remained constant.”
