Author Tessa Dare shared a post about her friend’s 5-year-old child calling a crow “Halloween eagle.”
“And a child shall lead us. It is known. This is the new name for the bird-formally-known-as-crow. You know what to do, @MerriamWebster,” Tessa tweeted last week.
Her post went viral and parents started to share their child’s own term for common things. Like cauliflower can be called as “little white trees” or gloves can be named as “hand socks.” Check out the hilarious definitions of kids have in their vocabularies.
My friend’s 5-year-old just saw a crow and called it a “Halloween eagle.”

My daughter called mittens “bakery hands,” because they looked like small oven mitts. Also “Pom-pom trees,” which is the perfect name for palm trees.
