We know that peanut butter and jelly is a match made in heaven, but what about PB and mayonnaise? Although this sounds like an unusual combination, it turns out that people were combining peanut butter and mayo since the early 20th century.
NowThis recently posted a video in which they explore the history of this odd sandwich and encourage people to try it. According to the video, the sandwich was as famous as PB&J. It was especially popular in the 1940s since this combo was the only thing some people could afford after the Great Depression.
While the peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich lost its popularity over time, the combo stuck around in southern parts of the United States. You can check out more info about it in NowThis’ video.

As you would expect, this caused a big divide among internet users. While some are willing to give it a try, PB&J purists were not happy that there is a sandwich like this out there ….
