Sophie Heywood’s Illustrations are Great Fun

Sophie Heywood’s illustrations speak to our inner child. Cute (but not overly), colorful, and uplifting, her aesthetic is inspired by pop culture and animals, with references to both throughout her work. A self-proclaimed “nerdy gal,” she graduated from the University of Central Lancashire in 2014 with a degree in illustration.

Now working full time as a freelance illustrator, her clients include Walker Books, Arts Council England, and The Guardian. But Heywood also runs her own Etsy shop, where she sells her own stuff.

“I started doing freelance illustration and set up my Etsy store back in 2013,” she told the Printed blog. “Back then I didn’t have many products or sense of direction, but my business and portfolio has since continued to grow more and more.” Her illustrations can now be found on anything from limited edition prints and greeting cards to badges, pins, and tote bags.

“I feel like nowadays with social media it doesn’t feel as lonely,” she reflected in the interview. “I’m part of a lot of online communities now and feel much more connected to my peers. I think it helps to understand that even the people you look up to are also struggling.”

No YOU were meant to post this yesterday! Wait, whaaaat? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Ahem. HAPPY NOVEMBER. Excuse me while I say the most British thing ever, but where the flip has the year gone?! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ November’s gonna be a pretty busy but exciting month; I’ll be at @thoughtbubblefestival next weekend 😱 and then @manchesterprintfair the weekend after that 💃🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think I took a bit too much on during October; I’m very tired and don’t know whether I’m coming or going. I want you all to know overworking is not glam at all and double booking is foolish lol. But anyway i’ve more or less finished the prep for these events and I’m excited for you guys to see what I’ve been working hard on. And then I’m looking forward to some down time after that. 🙂 I’ll also be at @yorkzinefest on Dec 7th and then that will be it for the year!! So make sure you pop some of these dates in your diaries if you want to get some illustrated treats from me face to face. 😘 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ll be bringing my Flora and Fauna 2020 calendars with me! Here’s a peep at Nov’s page. 👀 🦝 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #etsymcr #etsyukseller #etsyselleruk #etsylent #justacard #indierollercoaster #indieroller #wearethemakers #wallcalendar #2020calendar
