Tel-Aviv-based ceramic artist, Valeria Monis, has just the thing for you: a traditional blue porcelain tea set, but with a twist… prison tattoos decorations!
Each of her ceramic pieces is designed, crafted and illustrated handmade, incorporating illustrations taken from photographs, personal stories, and the Soviet police prison files.
“The motifs depicted – ranging from violence and pornography to politics and alcohol-represent the uncensored lives of the criminal classes,” explains the artist on her website. “The illustrations they wear on their skin tells the story of their closed society, a society with its own hierarchy and social structure.”
