Famous physicist and author Stephen Hawking passed away today, aged 76. He was praised for his work with relativity and black holes, among other things. He was the author of numerous popular science books and ambassador of science.
When he was 22, Hawking was diagnosed with a rare form of motor neuron disease and given a few more years of life. Though he spent most of his life in a wheelchair and unable to speak, he beat all the chances that the doctors have given him.
Many people and organizations went on Twitter to say their goodbyes. He will be missed.
Remembering Stephen Hawking, a renowned physicist and ambassador of science. His theories unlocked a universe of possibilities that we & the world are exploring. May you keep flying like superman in microgravity, as you said to astronauts on @Space_Station in 2014 pic.twitter.com/FeR4fd2zZ5

His passing has left an intellectual vacuum in his wake. But it's not empty. Think of it as a kind of vacuum energy permeating the fabric of spacetime that defies measure. Stephen Hawking, RIP 1942-2018. pic.twitter.com/nAanMySqkt

R.I.P. Stephen Hawking.
May he now have answered the question of why it is that we and the universe exist.
May he now know the mind of God.
