He’s not always sure how the painting will come up until he finishes it: “I’ll have a vague idea of color and a small piece of a figure I can’t quite make out stuck in my head, and I’ll have to make it,” he says.
There’s something about certain artists that gives them the confidence to just barrel into a production and not necessarily knowing what’s going to happen, and yet having the confidence that it’s going to turn out well.
Such is certainly the case with Willcox and his work. Sometimes, the inspiration comes to him in dreams or during meditation sessions.

]]>The more you scroll through his page, the more it becomes clear why he’s so popular. First off, his technique is simply impeccable. You don’t have to be an art expert to see that this man is incredibly skilled, and this serves as the foundation for all of his success.
However, his popularity is also about a lot more than just his technical proficiency. Howlett, as we already mentioned, has a unique style. His surrealist paintings often tell stories of giants walking amongst lofty mountains, or else laying down amongst them as well. He also tends to paint portraits of women who how somehow fused with the trees around them.
If these descriptions seem confusing, that’s because the paintings are the kinds of things you have to experience firsthand. So check out Howlett’s page and see how amazing they are for yourself!

]]>Khoshroo’s busts show features of the human face in an abstract way. They are formed with thick slabs of polymer, which looks like they were recklessly put together and abandoned before the work was complete.
Some of the busts are made with a single color of polymer, while others feature multiple colors joined together in seemingly random ways. However, there is nothing random about Khoshroo’s works, as each color and shape are meant to project different emotions and personalities.
“I search for materials with interesting behaviors that embody a certain kind of empathetic physical feel. This material is very gestural on its own: The pieces dance and wrestle with this sticky substance to shape it into its final human forms,” Khoshroo told Colossal in a recent interview.
Khoshroo describes himself as a self-taught artist. He started painting and making sculptures in 2009 and has since become a recognizable name in the art world. He works and lives between London, UK, and Tehran, Iran, while his works have been exhibited all over the world in recent years.

]]>Marinchuk shows her work on Instagram under the brand Marlitoys, and over 60,000 people follow her work there. She sells her dolls on Etsy, and besides her original designs, you can request a custom order or message her for collaborations.
Among her whimsical creations are many trendy and seasonal characters, such as the ones inspired by Christmas, popular shows like Squid Game, and much more. But our favorites are all the lovely animals she makes with a lot of love. They look like they could be cartoon characters and as such are an amazing gift for any kid (or adult who’s still a kid inside).
Her message on her Etsy profile reads like this: “Hello to all! My name is Lidiya. I live and create my MarLi toys in Ukraine since 2012. I want to make the world more colorful, to give people [a] good mood and a bit of magic. My creations are for people from 0 to 100 years.”
Check out some of her recent pieces below.

]]>Unlike many other artists who create insect art, Okita’s works are huge in size. She designs them so they can be displayed hanging from wires, and they measure up to 9.5 inches wide and around 3.5-4.5 inches tall. Despite being made out of fabric, they are surprisingly realistic. You can be tricked into thinking you’re looking at live creatures before you get too close. How scary would it be running into such a big moth for real?
Okita sells artworks on Etsy so you can check out her store if you’re interested. Make sure to follow her on Instagram as well because her work is truly fascinating. Seeing the insects in the photos is not as scary as in-person; it’s actually quite beautiful. She only has around 6k followers for now, but we believe that people are yet to discover her talent and give her support.

]]>Olajide’s works look just like black and white photographs, and you probably couldn’t tell the difference even if you approach to inspect them closely. He manages to capture every little detail, every wrinkle and the faces feature in such a stunning way that you wouldn’t even guess he only uses charcoal pencils.
What’s even more impressive is that Olajide is only 19 years old, and drawing is his hobby. He started drawing portraits several years ago to help his family’s budget and kept it as a side gig while focusing on his architecture studies.
“I draw anytime I’m in the mood. I don’t have a specific time, even in the night I draw,” Olajide shares. “It is something I do when I’m less busy, after school, during break time, a hobby.”
Due to the level of detail and work needed, his drawings usually take 20 or more hours to complete. The more complex ones can take the number to even 150 hours, which is how long it took him to paint a portrait of Queen Elisabeth II.
Olajide’s drawings have been featured in numerous exhibits so far, and he gladly shares his newest works on social media.

]]>Tsevis fell in love with Africa at first sight. He enjoyed learning about different cultures there and loved nature, animals, people, and the history he encountered, especially the houses.
“People used bricks and any kind of material they could find to build a home, a nest, a shelter. I have seen so much courage and so much creativity in all these houses. For me, these are the celebration of life. An incredible puzzle, an amazing mosaic of symbols, messages, and feelings. It was a no-brainer to use this idea for my personal art,” he tells My Modern Met.
Among the portraits from the recent series is the writer Amanda Gorman, whose portrait is called And Still I Rise after the famous poem by Maya Angelou, and reggae artist Keznamidi.

When it comes to scenes she puts them in, they’re incredibly mundane but also charming. Eating pizza, watering plants, or simply hanging out in the bedroom, her characters are relatable and just wonderful.
Ramplin was born in Bristol and now lives in London. Without any formal training in design (she studied music instead), she started making illustrations when she was very young. Her career started in arts marketing and continued to develop from there.
The artist has worked with some big clients before, including names like Universal Music, London Symphony Orchestra, and the YMCS. During the lockdown, she had more free time to work on personal projects so she made a lot of illustrations and GIFs which you can see on her Instagram page.
