Long before launching her own jewelry brand, Giulia Tordini was an Italian household name. A Milan “It Girl”, she’s known for her effortless street style and bold eye looks. Her brand, Leda Madera, is named after her grandmother—the muse and inspiration behind Tordini’s unique designs.

According to Tordini, her passion for Art Deco jewelry sparked at a young age, when taking careful notice of her grandmother’s stacked, statement rings. Indeed, the Leda Madera pieces have an Art Deco look that will add an artistic flair to any outfit. Carefully cast in Italy, the graphic pieces have a vintage twist to them, crafted with the label’s signature pleated detail that’s meant to give the look of movement.

“The ‘pleated element’ movement is at the core of my designs,” explained Tordini in an interview with Moda Operandi. “You will find it in all three families within the collection.”

But while her main inspiration comes from her grandmother, Tordini’s fashion sensibilities are tied to other family members. According to the young designer, her father has a showroom in Italy and the whole family has grown up breathing fashion. She herself graduated in Fashion Communication at IED and worked in the Communication Department of the family business. Tordini has also worked as Art Director for a few emerging brands and boutiques.

Aside from her family, other sources of inspiration include cinema and other forms of visual art: “My collection references Art Deco architecture from Paris and New York, and the whole Italian end-of-the-’80’s, beginning-of-the-’90s contained opulence,” she notes. “At the time, Art Deco was a symbol of modernity and luxury, and my brand has the same characteristics: eternal, it starts from the past and looks to the future, and can be passed on from one generation to another.”

Her timeless pieces can be worn by every woman, from day to night, paired with a casual look or more formalwear. Visit her Instagram to see some more pieces.

Gesine Hackenberg is an Amsterdam-based artist who primarily makes jewelry. And the pieces she comes up with are far from what you would expect.

Instead of using precious metals and shiny rocks, Hackenberg opted to make necklaces, earrings, and rings out of “domestic objects.” According to the artist, this helps her explore the “conceptual overlap” that exists between the things we use in everyday life and jewelry.

Hackenberg, who worked as a goldsmith apprentice and has a Master of Arts degree, uses various materials for her unique jewelry. But the pieces that arguably stand out the most are the ones made out of vintage ceramic plates.

Besides being old, these plates are also full of art, various motifs, and decorations, which further contribute to the charm of Hackenberg’s creations.

This talented artist harvests small parts of ceramics from plates by puncturing them. They are then polished and incorporated into the jewelry, while the rest of the plate remains as a solid structure that could be an artwork by itself.

“I like to reinterpret classical genres of art and jewelry history while translating those elements to my own contemporary world,” Hackenberg says about her work.

You can check out more of her creations below.

Even if your fashion taste is fairly modest, a bold accessory can do no wrong. In fact, with the right piece of jewelry, you can make any old outfit stand out.

Here to help you out is Elyse Tolles. The owner and jewelry designer of Elysian Theory, Tolles is known for her stand-alone pieces made of polymer clay. Her brand focuses mainly on earrings, with the occasional hair clip, and each piece is individually designed, pigmented, sculpted, and detailed by hand from start to finish.

Based in Midtown Sacramento, Tolles aesthetics drives home the meaning of contemporary feminine. “Elysian means beautiful, blissful, and ethereal, and also happens to be one possible origin story for my name, Elyse,” she explains on her website. “In classical mythology, the Elysian Fields were a dreamed about place of ultimate beauty and happiness, and my personal favorite definition of the word is Ancient Greek one that means “to be deeply stirred from joy.”

“I’m constantly inspired by the nothing-short-of-magical feeling you get from wearing a gorgeous pair of statement earrings, and it’s my greatest honor to be able to pass that along to you,” she adds. Since launching her brand in 2015, she has amassed an impressive following online, thanks to her sophisticated minimalism and soft femininity.

Below you’ll find some of our favorite pieces by Elysian Theory.

We admit it, when it comes to design philosophy we’re torn between Japanese quirkiness and Scandinavian minimalism. So when we heard of a brand that combines both aesthetics we couldn’t be more excited.

SCANDINAZN—a combination of the words “Scandinavian” and “Asian”, is a small brand dedicated to recycled leather jewelry. While the shapes and colors are borrowed from Scandinavian design, the jewelry’s subtle handmade intricacies take note from Japanese art.

Run by self-taught jewelry maker, Jamie Carlson, the brand echos Carlson’s mixed heritage. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Carlson is part Scandinavian and part Japanese, explaining that “a lot of my design influence comes from those two cultures. The name of my shop is a mashup of my heritage.”

“My background is in apparel design, but I started experimenting with jewelry during a project at school where I worked with repurposed materials,” she further explained in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I discovered that by cutting leather, I could make some really nice fringe, and from there I moved on to making earrings.”

According to Carlson, while her jewelry-making process is self-taught, it’s guided by what she was taught about design and construction. The result would fit nicely into our ever-growing jewelry collection.

Ruby Thursday More combines two of our favorite things into one: adding embroidery to jewelry to create unique necklaces and earrings that have a vintage appeal to them.

Featuring mainly floral patterns, her collections are a display of love of nature, textile, and color. In fact, color provides a sort of starting point to her work, as Thursday More admits she goes “color hunting” on the internet, as she looks for future references. Aside from color, her designs are also influenced by her mood, imagination, and memories.

“Creating is in my blood,” she admits, noting that her grandmother used to make colorful quilts, while her mother sewed pencil cases and throw pillow cases. “I try to stitch every day, even just for an hour,” she added in an interview with the Etsy blog. “I like the portability, the fact that I can take it with me wherever I go. It doesn’t require electricity. It doesn’t require the internet. With hand embroidery, you’re just in the moment.”

You can purchase her original pieces on her Etsy shop or follow her Instagram for that creative inspiration.

Svetlana is an artist best known for her handmade jewelry and fairly-tale inspired creatures. She hides behind the pseudonym handmadehome and says that she spends most of her time in dreams. This time, the crafter made beautiful flower butterfly dragons inspired by the magical faerie world.

“I paint their magical wings on satin fabric. Head and paws I sculpt from polymer clay. Also, I stitch, paint, create textures, patches and so on,” the artist shared with Bored Panda.

However, the whimsical dragons aren’t her only creations. Being motivated by nature, on her social media accounts she shares images of other fairytale-looking animal sculptures and she makes earrings, pendants, and head crowns using real flowers. Each art piece is customizable and unique; she doesn’t make copies.

Here is something for all nature lovers! Botanical bright is the Instagram nickname of an amazing artist who is making tiny plant goodies to brighten up your day.

Becca mostly uses very small products given by nature to make all sorts of things. She makes beautiful jewelry such as necklaces and earrings, alongside hairbands and hairpins with floral designs in pastel colors.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B14TQ8Gnuah/

Besides this amazing jewelry, she also makes small decorations using flowers, foliage, succulents, cacti, and many other things. Her mission is to create little bits of plant positivity in everyone’s life.

For Becca, everything started in her early twenties with her interest in the psychology of happiness. She was fighting major depressive episodes and during this period she developed her love for plants. She figured that her way to happiness was surrounding herself with nature. So she combined her artistic talents and creativity with simple natural elements, and it turned out to be a great thing.

What’s also very important is that 5% of the profit of every product bought from this artist is donated to environmental conservation. Plants are her constant inspiration, and it seems like they helped her fight with her depression. Check out her Instagram page to see more of her works!

Baylee Ann Zwart designs original jewelry that’s inspired by French Art Deco as well as Ancient civilizations, making wearable art pieces for the modern woman (but with a hint of tradition).

“I’m really passionate about creating fine jewelry options for modern women, that feel approachable for everyday wear, but special enough to invest in knowing they will have it for years to come,” she explained in an interview with Flaunt.

“I’ve always loved the Art Deco era of jewelry, it was so architectural and linear with the use of such unusual shapes of stones and diamonds, and I design in a very linear way, so I have loved creating a more modern take on Deco,” she added. “On the other hand I’ve also been fascinated by ancient civilizations for as long as I can remember, so being able to create ancient-looking coins, in solid gold was always an ambition of mine, and so was combing those two worlds, Ancient and Deco, and that’s really the voice and foundation of our collection.”

Her jewelry brand, AZLEE, is dedicated to creating long-lasting, quality pieces. Made of 18k gold and platinum, AZLEE’s pieces are made locally in Los Angeles by master craftsman. The enamel is hand-painted by a local artist and the jewelers are a top craftsman in their field.

Something to add to your collection, perhaps. Take a look at some highlights from AZLEE’s Instagram page:

Long before launching her own jewelry brand, Giulia Tordini was an Italian household name. A Milan “It Girl”, she’s known for her effortless street style and bold eye looks. Her brand, Leda Madera, is named after her grandmother—the muse and inspiration behind Tordini’s unique designs.

According to Tordini, her passion for Art Deco jewelry sparked at a young age, when taking careful notice of her grandmother’s stacked, statement rings.

Gema Arnal Jericó is the founder of a small business called Laliblue which creates jewelry with a vintage touch, using topics related to fantasy, classic tales, retro cinema, nature and the world of magic.

“It lies within our sewing box full of color and fantasy,” the jeweler shared on her Etsy store. “There you can find a wide range of accessories: jewelry, hair accessories, decor and more. “We love all the process: imagining, doing research and then creating. All the working process is made by us, without no intermediaries.”

In their work, the Spain-based company uses materials such as cast metal, wood, acrylic, and resin. According to Jericó the jewelry that is born in their atelier is dedicated to women who still feel as little girls inside. In one of their projects, Laliblue created a jewelry line with scenes from movies inside.

If you are interested to see more of their work, check out their Instagram, Facebook pages or have a look at their Etsy store.
