Teacher Treats Third-Graders to Hot Chocolate After Making Full-Court Shot

It’s always heartwarming to hear stories about teachers who go above and beyond for their students. Kathleen Fitzpatrick, a teacher at Holy Trinity School in Georgetown, certainly belongs to this group.

Fitzpatrick recently gained nationwide attention thanks to a viral video showing her making a full-court basketball shot at the school playground that caused her entire third-grade class to erupt in celebration. The kids were not only celebrating their teacher’s basketball skills, but also the fact that they would get some hot chocolate as a result.

As it turns out, Fitzpatrick made a special deal with the students; they would all get treated with a hot chocolate party if she makes the shot. And the teacher made good on her word, putting smiles on the third-graders’ faces.

“I think it was a tie between who was more excited. I knew it was going to go in, but at the same time I was hoping because I had promised them hot chocolate, so it had to go in,” Fitzpatrick later told CNN while revealing that she wanted to reward the third-graders for a hard-working week that saw them have two tests in one day.

Fitzpatrick didn’t rely on pure luck to make the shot, either. She’s a very talented basketball player and even played at the college level, being coached by Hall of Famer Vivian Stringer.

After witnessing their teacher’s skills, there’s no doubt that the students will want to make further bets with Fitzpatrick. With the odds stacked in their favor, there might be even a homework-free week in store for these lucky third-graders down the line.
