This trend was started by Twitter user Nathan Knight @TwopTwips, who uploaded a picture of himself as the moon. He went on to include an explanation of how to achieve the incredible look. He challenged other users to convince people that they are a moon by using a toilet roll center to take their selfies. Since then, everyone has been obsessed with this trend.
